This is what it seems like outwardly too. Not trying to be too critical, but this is the time of year you usually see players putting some major sweat equity into their individual games so they can get to the next level. From the outside it seems like Kofi is using this time to take a little break from it all. Which is totally fair, BTW. But it does give the impression that he's not obsessed with improving his game like many elite players are.
Likely a by product of NIL for some players

Yikes. I don't see him day-in-day-out, but could this be a residual mentality with receiving some big $$$ (NIL) and being the big man on campus (literally)?

I think he has at least potential for improvement in these areas:

Passing out of the post
Mid range jumper
FT shooting
Perimeter defense
PnR defense
And cover out to 3 and maybe make some from there. The bigs on Utah Jazz is why they are struggling

I'm baffled by this board. At the beginning of the season, we raved about how improved his game was. He was passing better and making free throws, and he *gasp* hit a 17 foot jumper. I've seen 422 posts about how awesome Fletch is over the past week, but I guess Kofi doesn't like him and won't be improving.

does anyone know what the official/unofficial visit rules for transfers are? i think the rules for incoming freshmen have been discussed on here many times but i don't remember anyone mentioning what the rules for transfers would be. specifically: is there a limit to the number of visits they can take? is it paid for by the university or out-of-pocket?

edit: clarity

A question I have about Kofi, there are always quotes throughout the season about how much he likes to be pushed to get better by Underwood and the other coaches. Kofi has said it, Brad has said it multiple times.

So why is that not the case for the offseason? Is it just that Kofi needs a break to unwind once the season ends, but then has no problem hard once the season comes around? Is it just lip service from Brad to try and keep him motivated? It's also not as if Kofi has been a James Harden type who comes into camp way out of shape. It just seems odd how his work ethic is praised so much during the year but then doesn't seem to exist from May-August.

I guess my problem is I’m all for Kofi getting all he can get but what makes me mad is I wonder how many in his circle are trying to get theirs also.
Why does that bother you? That is how the system worked for years under the table and how it works in the pros. It is not like Kofi is writing the deals and managing them on his own.

Maybe it has more to do with being self-motivated? During the season the coaches are able see the players a lot more and can be constantly pushing him, which he responds well to, but in the off season with less contact allowed there is a lot more on the players to push themselves. I'm just guessing here, but that could make some sense.

If Kofi could protect the rim 70% as well as Utah's starting center he'd be a top-5 pick lol

That's weird considering Gobert is taller, has a longer wing span.....and was drafted #27.

Well we know soccer was his first love, and that the big reason he switched to basketball is because he's a mammoth human-being. Wouldn't surprise me at all if he's not the type of player that lives, eats, and breathes basketball, but plays it because he's just naturally gifted.

I wouldn't say he comes to camp in shape though either. Yes Brad is probably hardest on Kofi(no one's safe from Brad though) and Kofi likes it but that doesn't in turn make Kofi go get in extra shots after practice or study extra film on his own or get an extra lift session in with Fletch, ect.

I’m not talking about agent or family. Im talking about guys who as soon as Kofi was to go broke will split and look for their next golden goose.

i'm at peace with whatever Kofi decides is best for him. Want him back because I think he keeps us more nationally relevant in the short term but him leaving would likely expedite BU transitioning to a more up tempo, slashing style, which seems to be the way of most final four teams these days

Agreed that it would be most painful to see him playing for another college team, and it would be very illinois for the first consensus first team all american to transfer to be an illinois player, but i'm even at peace with that. Kofi owes us nothing at this point imo
I am for any offense and lineup that will cut turnovers in half and give our 35% + 3 pt. shooters a half dozen more shots.

Yes, but that's just the hit-or-miss nature of the draft. If you re-did that 2013 draft today, Gobert doesn't drop past 3.
Yeah I'd say he'd pretty clearly be #2 behind Giannis, with McCollum 3. Looking back, good God that was a terrible draft class after those three and like two years of Victor Oladipo's career.

1. You can improve and still need to work harder to get to where you say you want to be (in the NBA)
2. What was his percentage on shots outside of the paint? Not good
3. Kofi does like Fletch and does all that is asked of him by Fletch. But he has skipped summer workouts the last two years, he isn't scrimmaging with the guys right now like he should be. He doesn't go the extra mile like Ayo did or Trent even.

Lol that's not why the Jazz are struggling. It definitely doesn't help Gobert that he's so limited offensively, but they're struggling because nobody on their team outside of Gobert can defend. Teams can penetrate at will and as long as they play somebody that can draw Gobert away from the basket, it works. Gobert actually defends really well in space. He just can't simultaneously guard the corner and the rim. Nobody can.
