If you add some elite-level pieces, guys are going to wind up leaving ... It's just part of the game.

That's not to say it would be Hawkins but if we land who I think we can land, then some guys are really going to contemplate their options ...
Well thank god for the portal that everyone complains about adding complexity or chaos.

Your complaint would be at the expense of kids doing what’s best for themselves, so suck it up.

I'm getting a little tired of so many people casually dunking on Lieb.

I love all the guys on the team, so this tends to be my reaction when discussing new players coming in and taking minutes from current players (thinking specifically and hypothetically of CH and RJ). I worry they may get upset and leave and I generally feel for them because everyone just wants to play as much basketball as they can.

But, I've started telling myself, if a new player comes in and suplants a current player in the rotation, 99% of the time, it's because that's what is best for the team. And the repercussions of upsetting an individual player will have to just be accepted and dealt with down the road. Give me the most talented 6 or 7 players we can get and let the pieces land where they may.
But you haven’t even given them a chance yet. What happened to developing kids, investing in them before you grab someone that not only may take their spot but the resources you promised them to develop?

Sounds a bit shady to me.

What resources are they being denied? No one is locking them out of the training facility. Kick the guy's *** in practice & take what's yours.

That was my thought as well… or more$… that’s what I was wondering about regarding our big boy recruiting - how much Illinois wanted to play 🤔
Kofi is the man on campus and a 2x All-American... We can't just offer as much or more to an incoming freshman, not how it works.

So it appears the staff is being fairly diligent regarding Bates and his camp, which is great. However, is the staff ultimately serious about him being a take after proper vetting? Or is it just one-sided interest?

You can’t replace Kofi offensively.
If you've seen moneyball, they have a scene about this. They couldn't replace Jason giambi, but you may be able to replace a lot of what he brings by different people contributing different things. We should have better passing and possibly pick and roll defense from those playing center this year, for example. But yes, of course fewer post moves leading to dunks or fouls.
