St. Louis Cardinals 2022

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. —

“Dynamic,” was the first word that came to the mind of Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak on Sunday.
Wearing the S-Cards’ version of powder blue with an unfamiliar No. 31 on his back, Flaherty made a statement in Sunday’s Class AA start in Springfield, his third and longest since his major league return was tabled after just three June starts.
After 1-2-3 innings in the first and second, Flaherty found some turbulence against the Arkansas Travelers, the Class AA affiliate of the Mariners, in Springfield’s 6-5 win.

This got me to thinking, do most players in rehab get to wear their jersey number or only if no one on the current team has it? I never follow rehab assignments that close.

My wife and I sat in the upper deck for a doubleheader in late May. We were in the shade and the wind was a gale. We froze out pin feathers off. When he got down to street level we couldn't believe how warm it was even though the sun was beginning to set.

One time I decided to try to get out of traffic by heading straight west on Addison then cut up and get Irving Park or something like that. Ever. Single. Cop. that was directing post game traffic stopped me. After the 5th time my wife yelled at me to take my Cardinals cap off. It worked but that was the last traffic cop in the area.

I've always said "Wrigley is a great place to go see the Cubs lose a ballgame." Sure, it's old, a bit dingy, kind of falling apart in places, but on the other hand the place has seen so much history (mostly of other teams beating the Cubs) that it's still one of the great cathedrals of baseball.

I'm taking my first trip to the "new" Busch in a few weeks (Braves series) and can't wait. My memories of the old park are fond related to the games and team, but pretty negative regarding the stadium itself, so I'm really looking forward to getting down there and cheering on the Birds.

It is a cathedral of baseball stadiums. I won't say I am completely impartial although I try, I liked Fenway better. It's close but Boston by a nose.
Back in the 70's the first time I drove past Lambeau Field, I thought it was a dump. It was before all the tv revenue and stock sales filled their coffers.

The stadium had this ugly green corrugated steel skin on the bottom of the exterior wall. It must have been hit by 100 delivery trucks because it was all banged up. The parking lot had potholes and broken curb stops. It reminded me of a college football stadium instead of a professional one. All most all of the pictures of the old stadium are aero photos that show off the field. That all changed when the money came rolling in.

My rule of thumb is that it will be 15 degrees cooler in Wrigley than it is in the rest of the city.

I don't agree with it at all but we aren't losing much of anything for those 2 games. I don't think his performance is suffering because of any of this. Main factor is we need him in the playoffs as a defensive factor. If we can get a lick of offense from him than great. I don't agree with the time off, but I do like Knizner seeing more time and also keeping Molina more fresh for the playoffs. You know he is halfway to retirement when he use to fight to not have days off.

Molina is hitting in the .220s now, about the same his batting average has been in the 13 playoff games he was in from 2019-2021.

Yeah it's not a huge deal for a couple games. I'm a little disappointed that it seems Molina doesn't seem to place that much value in the retirement season, mostly because it makes me wonder how engaged he'll be with the club and fanbase after his retirement. I always thought given his time here he' be one of those guys that's always around and feels like an intregal part of Cardinal nation but now I'm not so sure. Will always be one of my favorites regardless.

Yadi just changed the game defensively for our pitching staffs and fielders for so many years. Never have any worries when he is behind the plate. No added pressure to the next catcher(s) that come after him

I appreciate everything Yadi has done for the Cardinals and league. Yadi is very knowledgeable about the ins and outs of baseball and actually will be going to manage in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League after his time is done in the majors. I look for him to still have some part in baseball, come back from time to time and keep going to Puerto Rico. Might not see him as often but always humble and average guy persona to the St Louis area. Miss seeing him at some of the St Louis Blues games if anything.

Had no idea about the job managing in Venezuela, thanks for the heads up on that. That's pretty cool and I think he'll be great. Would be awesome to see him manage the Cards one day.

There are random articles but here is just one of them...

Funny thing is at the time he got offered the Venezuelan job there were no vacant jobs in Puerto Rico. Little surprised one didn't just open up for him.

I did love this quote in the article

"When the last out of the World Series falls, I retire and focus on my coaching career," Molina said.

Sure they do. Think it’s federal law. Don’t quote me on that.

They do get paid paternity leave. Think it is a few days max

Not up to date with other sports, but for longest time no other sport but MLB offered paternity leave or paid paternity leave. Think MLB started in 2011, other sports not sure.
