Yes, I do think the availability to transfer every year now and NIL will make the "top tier" schools only take the top HS kids - like top 60-70 ranked type kids, the rest will have to go to other schools show what they can do then transfer to one of the power schools.

If you are trying to win a national title every year, it just makes more sense for programs to take proven guys that have done it at a high level vs. a high school kid that will take a year or two to develop

My take is that it will create a huge gap between the haves vs. the have-nots, but also think it will narrow the dispersion in the "haves" group- between the true blue blood top recruiting schools and the other "haves" because schools like us can restock through the transfer portal, so even though we're not getting McD AA guys out of HS, the transfers we get like TSJ and Mayer are ready to play right now and allows us to compete year in and year out. Plus the blue blood schools will lose the one and dones and always have guys transfer out if they aren't getting enough playing time freshman year. If the blue bloods stop taking as many 5 star guys because they want to restock through the portal, then there are more 5 star kids available for schools that normally wouldn't land them. So overall I think it helps schools like us compete more consistently vs. the Duke/Kentucky/Kansas programs because of the transfer rules/NIL now
I think this over simplifies things.

Kentucky has demonstrated how hard it is to piece together a championship team with parts that haven't been working together over time.

I believe the best teams are going to have a core of players that have been with the program 2-3 years and then supplement with some transfers.

Time will tell of course.

Is it just me or does he look like he is going to push you down, take your lunch, and kick your dog on the way out? Perennially angry looking.
I take it to be-
he owns you and he knows it.

And you know it.

And he knows you know it.

And you know he knows you know it.

And he knows you know that he knows you know it and knows there isn't anything you can do to stop it

Yes it will be hard to win with just talent. Need a culture which can only be instilled with time. I think BU recognizes what type of player both from a talent and character perspective he wants. When a player goes against the culture of the team I think there is a very short rope

However it is easier to win when you have the talent. College the good coaches all bring in top talent. The question becomes does the talent win or is it coaching

Probably just thinking about how to respond to your statement....lol

I don't see much changing in terms of parity. Programs have been competing for top talent for a long, long time. Duke and Kentucky have absolutely dominated the class rankings year after year, and while those programs do well, the last time one of them won the championship was 2012. It's difficult to know how players will develop or a team will gel. To me, the best championship team in recent memory was Baylor, and they had good, but not great recruiting classes.

No disrespect to theNewGuy, but I would LOVE to see you try. Please, please, please take a video and post it. I have a feeling it's gonna look a heck of a lot more like this...

You are 100000% right.

The good ones make it look easy. I’m pretty high on young Clark based on what we are seeing on film. Will ultimately need to see him do it when it matters for Illini but his fundamentals seem well ingrained which bodes well for success at the next level IMO.
This is also a great point.

Just saying that I could probably put a better looking video together. He is very very smooth as the video suggests which is probably why the 30 sec of this clip probably only took about 5 min to make where my video might be made over a few straight weeks lol

This was a dig at the PR team for not garnering more exciting/flashy highlights.
His video just didn't get me excited like other highlight reels, but maybe that's because I never played organized basketball (I was a hockey kid) and don't understand the finer mechanics of the game/shooting stroke.

Watching these Hansberry highlights and he seems to be an EJ Liddell type player with his inside/outside skill set.
EJ was a much better athlete coming out of high school, but games are similar-yes.

I’ll take it to my grave the 20-21 Illini were an EJ Liddell away from winning a championship, Loyola game be damned. He was a big miss.

Also think EJ would have found a better position at Illinois. Likely would have been the starting 3 and not guarding the opposing center.

This is very true, but think of all the teams that are one player short of going a whole lot further than they did. Only one team wins the championship and that team got everybody they needed. The hope is that in the future we will be the team that gets all the players it needs. Not necessarily all the best players, but the players it needs.
