Know the family. His name is Theodore Nibblefarb. Good kid. Good family. He worked hard over the summer. Up to 5’9 1/4”. He put on 7 lbs but he’s still fairly lean. Right at 142. Strong as an ox though. Hard work showcasing results though and able to stretch his set shot to around 12’-15’ with consistency. Off the court he’s doing well also and is President of his HS model UN club. Natural leader. They’ve got 6 members this year and are hoping for a charter designation for school year 25/26. Too much to stick with drama club also, but will be helping with set and costume design prn. Likely going to bust through the hoops rankings this season once 247 hears about him. Projecting him as a solid high level D1 power conference PG.

Oh yeah, Theo. Of course. I don’t know how I forgot a detail like that.

I truly lost it the first time on your original Nimblefarb post. This was almost as good.
(That’s a personal top 5 Loyalty post; seriously…) Thanks for the laughs.

Amani up to 64th in his class on ESPN, 247 composite down to #73

James Brown, Morez #41 and 42 in updated 2024 ESPN rankings. Two 5* Baltimore prospects in that class..
He's not down in the composite, in fact the ESPN update moved him way up. Before the ESPN update he was outside the top 100 in composite. I don't remember the exact ranking. 247 had moved him way up in their own in-house rankings a while back.

Melvin Bell #1 ranked player in the state class of 2025 from St.Rita.He didn’t appear in this ranking because he didn’t play the whole summer doe to injury.

My guess with TSJ is that he has come to Illinois to get "Fletched" for a season and go pro. He has been a fringe NBA prospect for a few years. There was a strong chance he would have been drafted (mid to late 2nd round) had he stayed in last year. He was among the last to withdraw from the draft. Seems like he has been on a mission to get in the best shape of his life this offseason. The older you get, the shorter you leash with NBA teams. Agbaji was the only senior drafted in the 1st round last season. (Only 4 seniors drafted at all. No 5th year seniors)
If he isn't a first rounder after this season, he probably never will be.

I'm also assuming BU sold him on our tempo. Texas Tech played slow. Lots of games in the 60's.

I think that's what @hooraybeer was trying to convey, but they were abusing the "up/down" language.

I think every year is going to be wait and see for anyone outside the top 50-75 range.
Well I mean the coaches (as you know ;)) go off their observations more than a Rivals or 247 ranking. Get the point that it will be more selective going forward. Probably don't see a lot of Brandon Liebs who is a good teammate, contributes in practice, and values a UI education highly.

So, only two days until Perrin is supposed to show up (right? I don't always have my facts correct). Anyone have any information whether that is still on schedule?

Watching these Hansberry highlights and he seems to be an EJ Liddell type player with his inside/outside skill set.
Yep. He is a perfect small ball 5 that can rebound, start the break, and hit threes at a consistent rate, and I love his mid-range jump shot. He and TY do the things that win championships. They may not lead the team in scores, but they will do what's needed to win. If he can score like EJ, we will have something.

Does that mean we only take the HS players we really want/need and leave the voids to be filled by the portal?
Yes, I do think the availability to transfer every year now and NIL will make the "top tier" schools only take the top HS kids - like top 60-70 ranked type kids, the rest will have to go to other schools show what they can do then transfer to one of the power schools.

If you are trying to win a national title every year, it just makes more sense for programs to take proven guys that have done it at a high level vs. a high school kid that will take a year or two to develop

My take is that it will create a huge gap between the haves vs. the have-nots, but also think it will narrow the dispersion in the "haves" group- between the true blue blood top recruiting schools and the other "haves" because schools like us can restock through the transfer portal, so even though we're not getting McD AA guys out of HS, the transfers we get like TSJ and Mayer are ready to play right now and allows us to compete year in and year out. Plus the blue blood schools will lose the one and dones and always have guys transfer out if they aren't getting enough playing time freshman year. If the blue bloods stop taking as many 5 star guys because they want to restock through the portal, then there are more 5 star kids available for schools that normally wouldn't land them. So overall I think it helps schools like us compete more consistently vs. the Duke/Kentucky/Kansas programs because of the transfer rules/NIL now

Is it just me or is this just one of the blandest "skill tapes"?
It gave me more of the "I could do that" than "holy ****, he did that????"

No disrespect to ZZ, more of an overtime elite PR problem.
I remember watching a guy in a gym in Minneapolis doing drills at the same pace thinking I could do it and it would never translate to success in a game.

The guy was JJ Reddick.

It works.

No disrespect to theNewGuy, but I would LOVE to see you try. Please, please, please take a video and post it. I have a feeling it's gonna look a heck of a lot more like this...

The good ones make it look easy. I’m pretty high on young Clark based on what we are seeing on film. Will ultimately need to see him do it when it matters for Illini but his fundamentals seem well ingrained which bodes well for success at the next level IMO.
