I'm hopeful for a Blackstock commit or Miller flip some time this week. Blackstock exploded with offers after Illinois (Jackson State, Maryland, West Virginia, ECU, Louisville, Florida State, Louisiana, and Indiana). 247 has Illinois and Auburn as the leaders, so today's news can only help. Miller is the tougher get but would be a great PR win regardless. Either way, if you get one of them then they are likely starting at guard next year.

Reminds me of the article I read about Texas recruits. (Probably got it from here, I don't recall exactly.) Short version is that they always got these high-ranked players, but the statistical analysis in the article showed that players' ratings were getting inflated simply because Texas was interested in them. Point being that they were not in fact getting high recruits, but more average ones, and that contributed to their long down period (down by Texas standards anyway).
What I’ve always heard is not that their ratings were inflated by signing with Texas, but rather Mack Brown would sign these highly rated players (mainly from Texas) very early junior year and I think some possibly as early as sophomore year. The kids then didn’t work at their craft or just didn’t keep developing, so by the time they entered college they weren’t as good as their rankings indicated. End result was the same as what you said, but I don’t think it was Texas’ interest that got them rated highly initially, but them being Texas recruits did probably keep their rankings elevated higher than they should have been when recruiting services did subsequent evals and rerankings.

Auburn fires Harsin....see if anyone leaves or decommits

Jamarrion Harkless had this to say about Auburn in the last month or so

"The coaching staff, they really believe in me, and I really like them. When I committed, like eight players hit me up and said welcome to the family, so they are really welcoming. The environment, I mean, it's like no other. I think it's the best environment I've ever been to, and I've been to a lot of schools."

All good if stays at Auburn but wouldn't hurt to reach out to him today (y)

That Auburn was the best environment that he had ever been in????? Get someone who actually wants to be here and develop into a great student and a great player

Kids caught up in the SEC. Doesn’t particularly matter who the coach is at Auburn

We've been the 2nd worse program in all of college football the last decadish+. We have a long road to go before we can just count on players that "want to be here". Saying a historical SEC powerhouse has the best game environment he's been to shouldn't be something we disqualify recruits at critical positions from.

Not really Illinois recruiting news, but former Illini Ron Hardge announced he is leaving Oregon State and entering portal.

He knew all of this before he commited to Illinois.

100% true just saying we can't fault the kid for going and seeing the spectacle of SEC football and being impressed. Likely a moot point since seems he wants to stay in the SEC but if he has any interest we should welcome him back with open arms. Regardless we are on the proper trajectory where recruits that want to be here and talent level to take us to the next level will intersect.

Posting this for anyone who is overly-concerned with recruiting rankings:
I trust our coaches to find the right players for our system, develop them well, and put them in positions to succeed. Stars aren't everything.

Are we going to get any commitment news soon? You know, like before next year?
