Well, it's a whole new world for us, anyway. Right now we're the highest ranked school among his listed offers. Sure is better than all the MAC competition over the past 12 years, huh!!!

Notre Dame (committed?)
Oklahoma
Iowa
Minnesota
Duke
Boston College
Michigan State
West Virginia
Illinois - #14

Wow, that's astounding. I am so hopeful we can really cash in on recruiting.

Arrow is pointing ☝️

Izavion Miller would be our second highest commit, Keyshawn Blackstock may be getting a rating somewhat similar to him too

Recruits don't always pan out but I trust the young men that BB and crew are bringing in. Let's remember that our lowest recruit in the 2022 class was Matthew Bailey ;) Recruits are taking notice of the program in an upswing, great that other fanbases are as well nationally

This is much discussed (and will be much discussed forever) so I will say this: The system is convoluted, complicated, and endlessly changing. Drilling it down to simpler terms, it's more desirable to get commitments from higher-rated players. You bring up Matt Bailey and it's a great example of endless flaws on rankings.

For me, I'll focus more on (a) get as many 4-star recruits as possible (Feagin, Hill, Elzy) because the 3-star landscape is lottery ticket land or (b) get recruits that are being hotly pursued by other programs, even after they commit. I like that Illinois has seen other programs checking in on Swanson, Mizzou recruiting Hayden, after Schuster getting a Nebraska offer after committing. Again, this isn't a perfect system because early commits may not accrue other offers and will openly tell other recruiters they are not going to flip, but I think it's a worthwhile assessment.

Posting this for anyone who is overly-concerned with recruiting rankings:
I trust our coaches to find the right players for our system, develop them well, and put them in positions to succeed. Stars aren't everything.
I agree with this however that division of the SEC is pretty damn good as is the conference as a whole. SC, Bana, Ole Miss, and Miss State have all been ranked this year. Texas AM has NFL. talent on it's roster as do all those teams

Ummm, we also have NFL talent on the roster. NFL talent is developed. Lots of 4 and 5 star kids that don't apply themselves fall to the bottom of depth charts all the time. You dont have to be highly ranked out of high school to be NFL talent. I mean look at Beason. And look at Kirby Joseph. Man I wish our lottery had as many winners as the 3 star section on 247.

Umm not the same amount Plus I never said that you must be highly ranked to be developed into a good player. However much like where our basketball program is now. When football gets to were it is recruiting higher rated or higher level talent then the program will be even more successful given how they have shown they can develop players. When you can do both you certainly will perform at a higher level. Alabama, Clemson, Georgia and others are perfect examples. Your kidding yourself if you feel blue chip recruiting top recruits won't have a positive effect on our program that's just not true. It is in basketball and it will in football too. Coach B would be doing back flips if he had landed Texas AMs class. I also believe her would developed it and done more with it I think that is exactly what coach B is trying to do and needs to keep winning and fans need to get in the seats so our program can attract players like Texas AM, Ohio St, and other top programs do. Coach B is doing all he can to recruit these high level players that AM does don't kid yourself and we need to be at the games so he can.

It also comes down to the person doing the assessment of the recruits. Ton of recruiting sources are accurate to some extent but also are flawed. If we want to become an elite program than yes we will need elite talent year in and year out. Illinois is able to win with 3 star recruits when you have a coach who can develop and coach the young men. BB has this program right now where I was hoping it would be in year 4 of him being around. JMO but I feel we can continually be a bowl team and up if we keep recruiting like we are now. Majority of team will be built on 3 star guys and you have to sprinkle in the playmaking positions with 4 stars or guys that develop from 3 stars on up.

Each system has their own agenda. BB is running the CEO position of this team masterfully. I won't say it often but he is underpaid for what he has done so far (sure that will change shortly down the road). Ground and pound is our game it has just evolved a bit from the Wisconsin sets because we do have more spread sets. There might be a time where we will lose a bunch of quality guys in the transfer portal but I don't see it happening real soon. (Bunch on here went crazy when TE Barker left  )

Ohio St, Michigan, Penn St, eventually USC and others have big name appeal and more history than our program recently. Illinois needs to pounce on the next few classes and strike while the iron is hot. Ton of middle of road teams have off and on seasons like Iowa, Purdue, etc and recruiting fluctuates. I don't think we will be the big dog every year in the West but I think we can have staying power and be one of the top contenders in the West.
