I, for one, think BB pulls off the dream scenario here and brings in Leonard in some AHC type role with offensive and defensive responsibilities, promotes Kane to DC calling plays and gets both. Kane making $1M as DC should be enough for him to stay. If Leonard doesn't have any HC offers he wants to take, spending a year with a HC he trusts and building his resume for a HC role in a year would seem to make a lot of sense. Stacking talent in the coaching staff is how the big time programs do it and what BB is building here- would be awesome to see
The hierarchy of BB’s staff indicates the Associate and Assistant Head Coach positions (we have both) are placeholders for possible promotions into coordinator roles or even a true assistant to BB.
I don’t think Leonard would want that sort of job as he (and others) may view it as a step down.
He did okay as an interim and needs to continue proving himself to get more interest from other programs as a HC candidate. A/AHC positions at Illinois probably wouldn’t do that for him.
