Not for sure about Wisconsin. Long term they will improve but going from a Wisconsin offense to an Air Raid will be disorienting, they will having a lot of "two steps forward, on step back" this season.
Has Fickell named a DC yet?

If we would have Tommy DeVito next season, we would be unbelievable.
I say that, but throughout this season, we never blew anybody out. We never scored at will and maintained it.
And I can put the finishing touch on the season by repeating my mantra, Lunney's middle name is "2nd and 9".

can we get a blow up of that MSU receivers foot outside the endline , ala Greg Brady as team photog in the Brady Brunch episode , when they were able to prove the correct call , and can we now get a do over ?

For those to young to remember
Greg wants to join Westdale High School’s football team, but Carol (having previously only raised girls, particularly girls who never do anything more athletic than riding a see-saw) is afraid he’ll get hurt. He joins the team anyway, and in true A Christmas Story-style karmic payoff, fractures a rib and gets booted from first-string. While taking obnoxious photos of his cheerleader girlfriend doing arbitrary cheers at the end of the game for no reason, Greg accidentally snaps an action shot of a receiver’s feet inbounds, giving the coach ammunition to fight the referee’s call and earn a new spot on the team: as team photographer.

Key line: “Coach, the ribs are nothing, it’s telling my mother that’s gonna be painful!”

One of the best parts of the episode is that (we can only assume) Greg’s photo didn’t help his team at all. They mention in passing that it’s “hard to challenge a judgment call” and Mike is all “yeah w/e the coach was happy BUT WHO CARES GREG, TELL YOUR MOTHER YOUR NEWS”. They build an entire episode around this twist and just throw the transitional squares up on screen and move on to an Alice cake recipe gag. The cheerleader never shows up again (probably because she found out those pictures were just to hang on a clothesline in Greg’s room) and Greg says nuts to photography and just rejoins the football team without incident a season later. W/e.

funny stuff
And I thought I had too much time on my hands :D . That was actually fun to read. i don't know how I missed that episode?

Only gave up 13 points. Offense was very spotty as expected without CB. Would have been nice to win but MSU had more depth and just wore us down at the end. Onward and upward!! I-L-L baby!!

"A program"?

Seriously, each season is different. Next year's team isn't defined by what happened in 1987. Stop with the drama.

Yeah, where's Walter Payton when you need him?
Good call! Chase Brown reminded me ALOT of Walter... I said so after this game to my siblings as I was returning from the game. (he's NOT Walter Payton but has the same style of never settling for yardage.) Chase would have been a clear difference-maker in today's game and afforded more rest for the defense. but...hindsight...

I think we missed him more than the DBs., but then he was our best offensive player in many a year, maybe since Mendenhall?

Was at the game. Tough one. Illini fans really did show up in force. Probably 3 to 1 ratio vs bulldog fans. The cowbells do help them in the noise department - makes them sound twice the size they are.

Offensive rhythm just wasn’t there. Brown not being there probably hurt, but this felt beyond that. TDV just didn’t have a great day.

Speaking of TDV, we ended up in the section with where his family was sitting. And by family, I mean classic Italian extended family in the dozens all there to cheer on their guy. They it was awesome hanging out with them.

Would’ve loved the win, but was just great to see the team in person after forever, and at a new years bowl to boot. I think we have a foundation to build on. :illinois:

Agree about the offensive rhythm and TDV had a decent day. A couple first down drops that would have made a big difference. I wish he didn't take so many sacks

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but these kids are not playing the game for you. I would have advised my own kids to skip the game too. Really proud of the effort today and content with the outcome and season. Hopeful for the future rather than disappointed with what could have been.

It's a (quasi) holiday at the beginning of January and I spent the afternoon watching the Illini in contention until the final seconds to win a marquee bowl game. I haven't been able to experience that since January 1, 1989 when we beat Virginia in the Citrus Bowl.

This season was a great gift to Illini fans. Thanks to the players and coaches for giving it to us. Thanks to TDV for choosing us and giving his all this year. Thanks to Ryan Walters and his staff for developing that stonewall D and holding opponents to 12.8 ppg on average. Thanks to Chase, Sydney, Devon and all the guys for their Herculean efforts. I can't recall the last time I was as proud of an Illini football team as I was in Ann Arbor on Nov. 19. It has been many years.

Let's do what we need to do to keep BB, and to continue building on what has been remarkable progress in two years. Compared with what I expected in August to unfold this season, what we enjoyed was spectacular. It's difficult articulately to express the extent of my gratitude to these guys for the thrills, enjoyment, and sense of Illini community they gave us.

32 point win against Wyoming, 21 point win against Virginia, 31 point win against Chattanooga, 24 point win against Wisconsin and 38 point win against Northwestern. if those aren't blowouts I don't know what is. in our wins the margins of victory were generally impressive

Probably poor wording on my part. He doesn't look like he can make the first tackler miss. Run over him, maybe. Chase, and to a lesser extent Love, look more able to get through lesser holes than McCray. (Having said this, I do love McCray being on this roster. Just need to have the right plays called for him).
We will see how he fits. He was pretty good with Tony when we were under center a lot more. We will see. If I were a betting man I’d bet they bring in a RB from the portal.
