sometimes i was wondering what game those announcers were watching.
Yeah I mean it was clear from the replay what it was but you know what all year we’ve had calls not go our way like that so doesn’t surprise me that a flag wasn’t thrown, especially that late in the game.

This is a huge concern of mine and i wonder if we need another RB in the portal? Love had some decent moments, but it was a big drop off from him and Brown.
Me too. I was high in Mcray at first, but now it seems he will mostly be used in short yardage bulldozer territory. And very prone to leg inujuries. Maybe we have some promising youngsters waiting in the wings.

I was hoping to see more from McCray. He still looks hurt although he did have a couple nice plays. We certainly need another back who’s ready. I have no idea if any of the freshman can make that jump. Maybe spring ball will show something. Chase will be tough to replace.

I missed why Ford was not on the team vs just choosing to sit out? We could have used his blocking today.

What the hell happened to the defensive Line? NO PRESSURE ON A VERY GOOD QB. What the hell happened to the offensive line? LEAKED LIKE A SIEVE.
I thought this team had sand. They don't.
Did you not watch the game? We rushed three and dropped the rest back; they threw underneath and had a wicked high completion percentage. Their defense rushed six or even seven players and often had two defenders completely unblocked with Tommy running for his life (and holding onto the ball waaay too long). They were aggressive. We played it safe. In the first half I was happy with this because it was opposite land for this year's Illinois defense, but I expected Miss St to adjust (and so I thought WE would adjust too) but we stuck with dropping back. In the end, I thought we were outcoached. Kids played very well; loved what I saw from all the Fr. When we started running successfully in the second half I thought we had it made... and then Lunney stopped running. I really hate it when we get away from what's successful even in the same drive. I don't get paid to call the plays. I watch, I drink, I rant, and I move on. Good season marred by losses just like this one. Meh.

Good game. At a minimum we showed our defense is legit against a great passing offense. Both lines just ran out of gas and they had us on both sides of the ball most of the 4th quarter. Still think if Tommy hits IW we go down and kick a field goal to win it.

I do like Lunney, but wasn’t his best game today. Just didn’t feel like we called enough quick passes/draws to counteract their pressure. Too many long developing plays left Tommy out to dry.

I think the lines running out gas was the story of the 2nd half of the season. Not a lot of depth seemed like caused the guys playing to wear down.

running back is one position where its proved that as long as you can hold onto the ball, you can play on 1st and 2nd downs as a true frosh or true soph.
3rd down you need a guy who can block and pick up blitzes .
Really think we should be okay there
It still mostly comes down to the QB making 60% of his throws and not turning the ball over

Completely agree with this. Many early games we dominated the TOP, but as the season wore on and that equaled out, our D-line play was not quite as good over more snaps. Hopefully we are building depth that can step in.

Ford declared for the draft.

I felt and stated that we would have to possess the ball to have a chance. Our defense was better than I thought it would be on the back end. That being said, our running game left a lot to be desired. I too think we will be fine there but hopefully our offense will improve next year. Proud of our team. Great Season!

I'm pretty sure it's been said, and more eloquently than this...

But despite the loss, there is reason for hope. And not that "well we have an interesting incoming freshman class with some potential sleepers" kind of hope. There is legit reason to look at this program and believe that a year like this (maybe with fewer infuriating losses) will be the baseline going forward.

Maybe a 6 - 7 win season here and there, but 8 - 9 wins on a regular basis, with a possibility at 10+. And that is so far ahead of where we have ever been. Not trying to be hyperbolic but it is light-years ahead our history in football.

As they said on the broadcast, we have had 4 9-win seasons over the past 70 years, and yet I sit here and type/believe that will be our average season going forward.

This team was a revelation and pleasant surprise. They got me all the way through a college football season, keeping me heavily invested. Now I get to watch the basketball team grow and get better (hopefully) and look forward to next September with hope in this team that I haven't had had in a long time.

I-L-L!

We had a clean game today. Only three penalties, no interceptions and the single 'fumble' on the final play of the game.
Why didn't MS get to try for an extra point on that last touchdown? Is that always the case when the team is ahead and time runs out?

My 2 cents! SEC depth showed out front and center! It will come for us, but we need to stack 3-4 good recruiting classes. The just flat wore us out. Had no issue with him not blitzing a lot, was trying to protect the freshman DB’s, who I thought played extremely well.

yes, that is the rule for when time runs out and the XP is meaningless to the game outcome itself.
They dont care about any other implications

This will probably get me kicked off forum but come on. A program that cannot defeat teams that lay their collective heads on the block and implore you to swing the axe cannot learn what it takes to rise above the mediocrity that has defined this program for the 60 plus years I have watched, hoped and ultimately been disappointed.

The result today is a continuation of a long standing tradition that is Illinois football.

I couldn’t stay away and I need your definition of “Long standing tradition that is Illinois football”. Illini football has a hell of history and we just had the best season we have had in a 3rd of my lifetime. ILL

The very last replay of that play showed there being a wee bit of green between the receivers foot and the endzone, though there has been Bigfoot footage that has shot with less grainy cameras.

Addition: he was in, I just explain it not good
I respectfully disagree.

"A program"?

Seriously, each season is different. Next year's team isn't defined by what happened in 1987. Stop with the drama.

Why would you call out TDV?
Too many times he stayed in the pocket and did not run through gaps available. Even if he just had positive yardage it would have been better. He did that all year, but not today. It makes the defense make adjustments. Other plays become more successful. I saw it early and there was never an adjustment. Just my opinion.
