Hmm, with harbaugh. I thought he’d want to stay at Michigan and follow his idol Bo. But then again, nfl is almost an easier job in the sense you don’t need to recruit, which a lot of college coaches today do not like, but it’s part of the job. Harbaugh has been there as a player and coach, knows the league, and might want to out do his brother In Baltimore. I think he leaves

And with the transfer portal, coaches have to re-recruit some of their veteran players every year.

While I understand Harbaugh has unfinished business in the NFL, he also has unfinished business at UM. Also, the Broncos are a dumpster fire. The Vikings made more sense to take last year than the Broncos.
I’ve heard this a lot but I think it’s overstated.

Denver now has the wealthiest owner in American professional sports. Denver has also historically been one of the NFL’s most successful franchises. Resources and motivation to rebuild won’t be lacking.

Denver also has the ability (and as things stand, perhaps no choice but) to make a long term commitment to a veteran established coach like Harbaugh or Payton. That means a lot of years and a lot more guarantees than what a newly hired NFL coach typically gets. They can promise the coach will have a lot of say in personnel. And they can assure the coach that he pretty much gets a free pass in 2023 and 2024 while they sort out the Russell Wilson salary cap and draft pick mess. I’m sure the pitch to a coach like Harbaugh or Payton will be “It’s your team for the next five years. Do whatever you want. Total carte Blanche to build this however you like. You can go 0-17 the next two years and we won’t complain. Also let’s make you the highest paid coach in NFL history. How does that sound?”

Who would scUM go after? Wow. Tough question as the carousel has slowed down. An NFL assistant with Michigan ties?

Pretty much whoever they want.
Well you knowingly overstate it. I don’t see any current Big Ten coach nor half of the SEC heading there.

I get your point however: It’s an elite job and they’ll have plenty of quality coaches interested.

It’s possible now that your going to see players that have committed and signed with them recently transfer next year.

Harbaugh has done a great job at Michigan, but I bet they can do better. No clue who that would be though.

If Michigan gets an nfl assistant, would he be able to navigate the uncertain current and future landscape of major college football??? Especially in recruiting. Im not sure. The urban Meyer, and I’m sure others’ pitch was, ‘I will get you to the nfl’, which on its own doesn’t carry as much weight anymore with nil.

I have no idea. All the things people have suggested so far seem plausible, although I lean toward Michigan man nfl assistant

Hopefully they eff it up though

I would think they would grab Urban Meyer in a NY minute if they could . With all his issues , he knows how to win college football championships

I'm not disagreeing with your point about Meyer specifically, but I wonder how well his "skill set" translates to the NIL landscape. OTOH, maybe it's largely the same since asking donors to funnel money to players can be done in sunlight rather than the shadows.

20 mil a year is absolutely insane for a coach who has never won a title. 20 mil a year is get Belichek and Brady back together money.
