Watching msu IU game. Tough d is getting to IU. Yes they are doubling tjd. Izzy isn’t going to let tjd go off like did on UI.

This is so perplexing. How is it not ok to get rid of a coach that has destroyed the program for so many years. It's beyond politics and tradition at this point and maybe a few years ago. The longer this goes on, the crazier this becomes for everyone. Also, how does PE justify it in his own mind? So bizarre why he even wants to stay at this point.
I'm very late to this discussion; however, having lived in DC for a long time and talked to a lot of people knowledgeable about G'twn hoops, it's difficult to understate the extreme dysfunction associated with the program regarding the long shadow that John Thompson Sr. casts over it.

Am curious how my fellow DC-area Loyalty brethren view the sitch.

TJD is also missing shots that he made all game against us
I agree completely bro.....I just started watching @ the 11:00 mark and tjd missed 2 bunnies and had an attempted pass to him get picked off by sissoko.......

He is a good player , no doubt , but he played at a higher level aided by our poor defense than his usual performances.....

I'll not call him overrated any more , just he gets more praise than I would give him......If you have watched him throughout his loosier career as I have , he is not deadly around the rim .....As I type i just heard an announcer say tjd missed badly......

to each his own regarding tjd........hope this is the last year he is in college.....I really really do..............

edit:.....I will agree that tjd's defensive play is exceptional............

altgeld88, thanks for asking.
Been in the area going on 21 years. Have treated Gtown bball as if I still lived in Illinois - from a distance.
Thought it was interesting that Thompson's son could not keep the quality of play up there first of all.
Then, after his playing days, it was good to see PE learn the ropes of coaching the right way. Unfortunately, again, it has not translated to a high level of play for his alma mater.
Would love to see Gtown Bball return to the ranks of the elite, but have no idea what it would take to attract the talent and coaching chops to get it done.

As for today's IU-MichSt fiasco, unfortunately, the Loosiers must win this to bring MichSt back to the pack with its 4th conference loss. IU already has its 5th loss, and I'm sure they will have more, so no problem having them win today.

Yeah, game is a lot easier when you know it’s 1 one 1 with your man and no help is coming
TJD is a very good college player but like Deon Thomas mentioned repeatedly on the IU-ILL game broadcast, he consistently goes to his left and almost always uses his left hand. Even in the game today against MSU, he had an easier dunk with his right hand that he switched to his left hand to complete. The team that figures out how to force him to his right (and use his right hand) is going to beat him and Indiana (unless they have someone like Kofi who can engulf him--it will also be interesting to see how he performs against Edey). He'll never be a great pro and Indiana will not go far in March until he figures that out.

Things TJD gets away with (that other players don’t):

✔️Taunting/getting in the face of the opponent
✔️Aggressively bumping/backing down his defender
✔️Camping in the lane on offense
Looks like the beat down TJD put on us and DD has given him a big shot of confidence and arrogance.

I thought he was in the lane for about 5 seconds on multiple occasions.

He has 31 points but on 10/20 shooting so I am not sure Izzo did better than BU on stopping him

They tried but ultimately they struggle with the same thing we do - no true dominant Big. Sissoko is a big body but he doesn’t have the skill on the other side to force TJD to play great defense. I’m not sure TJD can do that without fouling. If you slap him with two early fouls, his vibe is totally different and he tends to pout.

In other news…

Zach Edey’s elbows fall under Indiana’s open weapons-carry laws…
Purdue up at home midway through second half vs the Turtles.

The turtles definitely aren't playing like they did against us. Seems like almost everyone we lose to has an unconscious shooting game. I know some of it is our defense, but still.

You think IZZO can make in game adjustments better then BU.. well.. TJD went off for 31, 15 and 4 today in a not as close as the score shows win over MSU..

Same issue we had. Galloway and Bates went off for more than twice their season average. Hold them to their average and MSU wins.

On the other hand, you have the Purdue Maryland game where Edey got his, but MD did a good job of shutting down the supporting cast and as a result nearly came away with a win at Mackey.

Purdue's 5th win, I think, decided by 1 or 2 possessions.

It’s because they’re either doubling him or flashing help on every single possession. Even the anticipation of the double from the is enough to throw him off and we never gave him that
TJD: 31, 15 boards and 5 blocks today.
IU from three: 9-15 and 21-24 from the line.
Galloway and Bates combine for 34 pts.
against us:
TJD: 35, 9 boards, 3 blocks
Galloway, Geronimo and Hood-Schifino combine for 34 pts.

Would I have liked to see us change things up in our game, yes. Maybe just for spurts to throw them off.
But even more so, I would have liked to have seen us make at least half the bunnies and far more FT's if so, we probably would of have sustained several runs during the game (which were snuffed out by missed bunnies and missed FT's) and maybe that would have shaken their confidence on the road in a hostile environment.
However, it's obvious IU is playing their best BB of the year and at a high level, won't win games against a good team, playing their best basketball (with the now third timed mentioned, bunnies and FT's) no matter how many times you change your strategy.

We missed how many FT and layups is what lost the game for us last week against IU. we hit half of our misses we win against IU. Beat OSU.

Well, I guess TJD was too much for Sissoko since he was unable to slam him in the nose and knock him to the ground causing broken bones and a concussion. Screw Sissoko! He is a thug. Anything bad that happens to him is well earned.
