Like I have been saying…

#1 team in the country lost today. They scored 55 points. They allowed 1 point in the final 5 minutes and lost. They shot 11/21 from the free throw line. 9 total assists. 19-56 from the field.

it’s not “Illinois stinks. Brad lost the team. We’re done. Gloom and doom”

It’s just…college basketball.

TJD torched MSU for 31 today..so either Izzo loved Brads game plan or the clown pants have seduced teams into thinking they are a cupcake.

LThey will probably need to petition the BIG 10 to postpone their next several games.

I believe the real "possible B10 champs" Indiana team may now be showing up.

Watching Purdue struggle against Maryland, makes me think they will not run away from pack in B10.

Next polls.....Expect Alabama to be #1....but maybe Purdue takes that spot (Although I dont believe they deserve over Alabama from body of work)

Well, I guess TJD was too much for Sissoko since he was unable to slam him in the nose and knock him to the ground causing broken bones and a concussion. Screw Sissoko! He is a thug. Anything bad that happens to him is well earned.
I get it. Sissoko busted Ayos face.

But focusing on the original point, how do you beat TJD? Unless he grows up (or maybe he has), he pouts when things don’t go his way early, especially when he stacks up fouls. I don’t see how we can handle him unless we double team him. When we play in Bloomington later this year, Dain will play better. Maybe better basketball minds can share thoughts - is Brad’s concern about the other three point shooters worth going 1-on-1 with TJD?

So I think Maryland provided a useful blueprint to beat Purdue. Pressure their FROSH guards. We should have the positional size to really bother their guards and could potentially play CH at the 5 and pull Edey away from the basket. My question is will Brad take note?

I thought one of the benefits of constructing the roster this way would be versatility in the way we play. I realize we had to rebuild offense and defense on the fly so maybe we just haven’t had bandwidth to throw in matchup specific wrinkles. But so far I don’t think we’ve done the best job of utilizing our positional size/versatility to exploit matchups. Big BU fan but I don’t know as if this year has been his best coaching year.

Maybe it was because things went well early (and late), but I thought TJD was extremely well-behaved in our game. He even told his teammates to stop taunting on at least one occasion.

I didn’t see the bulk of the 2nd half. Does he have a fair case? I’d be shocked if he has a leg to stand on. Edey has, what, 5 fouls over the last 6 games combined? He got two yesterday and it burns up Painter. Boohoo Matt, here’s a tissue 🤧

Funny..I thought Maryland was getting hosed for most of the second half. Purdue should have been called for an intentional foul on a breakway layup and Maryland got called for a couple cheap fouls posting up on smaller Purdue guards

I believe a strong elbow to the sternum within the first couple of minutes will completly change his game plan. He'll think about it for the next 38 minutes. JMHO

He is not a moose, 6.9 230. Send in "enforrcer" to bang him around a little. Of course we are not very deep in the enforcer department.

He's not complaining about fouls called against Edey. He's complaining that more fouls should be called against the opposition players guarding Edey. This is similar to the campaigning Underwood did for Kofi. Those guys are so physically dominant they are very difficult to guard without fouling, but the refs don't want to call a foul on every play.

Funny thing. Opened my front door last night and there was a moose 5 feet away looking at me. Considering I live about 15 blocks from the center of business in downtown Anchorage, that is kinda cool. Fortunately, I was not taking my lab for a walk or it would have been a real story to tell.

I am not a basketball genius, but I would have tried to front TJD so they had to throw the ball over the top. This would at least force him to set up farther from the basket and give our back side help some time to get there. Letting them get him the ball on the low block was a killer.

Used to be a regular thing. I lived in Eagle River from 1992-96, and the Chugiak from 2001-13. Didn't mind them in the neighborhood, but on the Glenn Highway it was pretty bad this year - just a dark hole where they were standing.

That’s fair, and you’re correct about his comments. I sort of skipped this in my initial but I think Edey initiates a lot of that contact with those defending him. If he gets a lot of resistance, he tends to get more aggressive, and resorts to the use of his elbows. The defenders don’t have many options but be aggressive back. Kofi moved so differently than Edey. Though they both are big humans, their style of play around the rim is different. Kofi was slower but super strong. Defenses had time to provide the help and would hack away. Edey is faster but also looks less in control of his body IMO. He does get fouled but I think Edey should be called for offensive fouls more frequently (this includes over-the-back fouls on rebound put-backs). But, I have biased orange and blue eyes. 😉
