If Oregon or Washington don't move the needle enough right now to make it worthwhile financially, I dont think Mizzou does.

Texas A&M or Florida would certainly move the needle.
I forgot Texas A&M in my previous comment, they're in the AAU. If A&M wanted to leave the SEC, either to get away from Texas again or become of potential future ESPN money issues, I would be open to having the Aggies join the B1G, their crazy rituals and all.

If I was a betting man, the non-SEC teams that would probably move the needle for the B1G, in no particular order, are likely Notre Dame, Washington, Oregon, North Carolina, and Florida State. Ones that would get attention as good options are probably Virginia, Cal, Stanford, Kansas, Colorado, Duke, Miami (FL), and Georgia Tech.

Ok, after tweaking this many times, I think I have the perfect permanent rivalries. Only one team is upset, but I think its so good for everyone else it makes all the sense.

Illinois: Northwestern Purdue UCLA
Indiana: Purdue Maryland UCLA
Iowa: Minnesota Wisconsin Nebraska
Maryland: Rutgers Penn State Indiana
Michigan: Ohio State Michigan State Purdue
Michigan State: Michigan Penn State USC
Minnesota: Wisconsin Iowa Nebraska
Nebraska: Iowa Minnesota USC
Northwestern: Illinois Rutgers Wisconsin
Ohio State: Michigan Penn State Rutgers
Penn State: Ohio State Michigan State Maryland
Purdue: Indiana Illinois Michigan
Rutgers: Maryland Northwestern Ohio State
UCLA: USC Illinois Indiana
USC: UCLA Nebraska Michigan State
Wisconsin: Minnesota Iowa Northwestern

I generally like it. Iowa rivalries seem the most spot on. Nebraska/USC seems like a natural historical (going back a bit) powers rivalry. Michigan State football gets screwed. It also just looks strange with UCLA having any BIG "rivals". I guess they need to start somewhere. 15 years from now it wont seem that way I guess.

Lots of these matchups make sense. Good luck to Michigan State.

Michigan State basically has two "rivals" in the current Big Ten, and as Tom Fornelli points out, what are we even doing if there isn't a Spartans vs. Trojans rivalry moving forward. MSU would kick and scream, but everyone else would be happy enough that I say just get it done :)

I feel comfortable enough to say that MSU fans aren't going to be heartbroken losing a Penn State permanent game if a necessary sacrifice to have one "easier" game.

If we hold to the AAU requirement, then Vandy, Mizzou, Texas, and Florida would be in play.

I remember in 2010 when Nebraska joined the B1G, Mizzou thought that they would be joining within a few days/weeks, so they may get jumpy pretty quickly. Texas is Texas, they crave attention and cannot stand being out of the limelight. My bet would be Mizzou first, then Texas, then TBD.
given Nebraskas recent history, if things were to have gone the same way they have for them, since joining the B1G, no friggin way would they have received an invite these days. They were super lucky to join when they did.

Don't like the Illinois rivalries. Other than UCLA, no pizzazz. My preference would be to add Miznoz to the B1G and replace Purdue with Miznoz, GREAT rivalry potential.

I mean sure, I would like Missouri in the conference, but that isn't happening right now...

And I'm not sure how much more pizzazz you need if we have a road game at the Rose Bowl every other year. If you don't want us to be paired with Northwestern and Purdue, well I'd brace yourself to be disappointed.

I agree with Redwing that I'd like Mizzou to be in the B1G, as a good rivalry game, but I also do not see that happening anytime soon, unless the SEC has a major meltdown. Instead, I hope that we can start an annual nonconference series with them in football, similar to basketball. I believe that we have games scheduled with them starting in a few years.

I was at 3 of those games as an MI member. The vibe was electric but I agree that Illinois-Mizzou would be a good week 2 or 3 game in Champaign or Columbia.

I am not against Illinois' likely annual opponents - I can support playing for Lincoln's Hat and the Purdue Cannon each year - but why does Indiana have Michigan instead of Michigan State? Indiana and MSU play for the 'Old Brass Spittoon' and I hoped that the powers that be would attempt to favor rivalries, when possible.

You could swap Indiana and Rutgers between Michigan and Michigan State, but Rutgers would end up with Maryland, Michigan and Penn State. That's a tough draw.

With all due respect, and remember I'm saying with all due respect, the US News and World Report rankings ain't worth a velvet painting of a whale and a dolphin getting it on. Neither of those schools are AAU and that's an automatic disqualifer for anyone that isn't Notre Dame.
Does aau really mean anything anymore?
