I think their point was just that those numbers (68 for Notre Dame and 16 for Northwestern) seemed dubious.

I looked up the RSCI lists beginning with the 2002 High School graduating class (Dee, Deron, and Augie's class) and ending with 2022. This includes only incoming Freshmen to each school and doesn't account for incoming transfers:

Notre Dame has had 17 freshmen ranked in the Top 100 in their respective classes, and Northwestern has had 4, so your point still stands that it's a lot easier to recruit Top 100 talent at ND than NW.

Just for fun, in that same time frame, Illinois has had 35 incoming freshmen that were ranked in the RSCI top 100.
I could've misread the college basketball reference page as # of rsci top 100 recruits on the team that year. So it's net years. Either way it's going down a massive unrelated rabbit hole besides the original point.

The connection: If ND had gotten 68 top 100 recruits (~3.5/yr), then ND was, IMO, a clear step up from NW and PSU. The talent was coming independent of results.

I think ND is a step up from NWU or PSU. ND has the better name recognition, and associated prestige which will help with recruiting. ND has the image of a cool place to go. NW? PSU? The ACC vs. Big10 is likely a wash. It is a 3hr+ drive to PSU from Pitt or Philly. No one is coming to see you play. From South Chicago, NW is a 45m drive and ND is 90m. ND may be a turn off for non-religious recruits.

Wrt. my previous post of ND getting poor results given the talent: If ND only got 17 top 100 recruits in 20 years, then their results are quite good for what they had.

Why would Collins leave NW. he is from the Chicago area? ND is 2.5 hours away from his family.

The Big Ten will be just as tough as the ACC going forward. Edey has 2 years left, Wisky and Iowa have good underclassmen. MSU and scUM have good recruits. Plus we have a good core coming back

What eligibility does NW guards have left? Do they have one more year or is this their last year? If one or both are back he could build a program

Audige and Buie are both playing their fourth season in college basketball. I have no idea anymore what that means..

If Collins turns down ND because he'll be an hour and half from mommy and daddy I believe he'd be the first coach to ever do that. (Apologies if Doug's wife is somehow in need of special attention from her son)
I think his son is a manager for NW not sure what year so it is more than mom and dad.

I can't imagine someone passing up a much better job so they can be with their son while he finishes his college career as a basketball manager.
I’m pretty sure Judd Heathcoat had a chance to take over at UCLA when Wooden retired but he couldn’t leave little Buster Heathcoat who handled who had 2 years left as a manager at MSU.

This made me laugh out loud and I don’t do that enough.

yea, I have a pretty hard time seeing ND looking past all his past bs and hiring him. The guy is really too old anyway for a P5 job.
