not really. College basketball is the transfer portal now. Before too long teams will start to figure out, there's minimal value from recruiting high school players. High school guys don't always pan out, they sometimes are good but not as good as you thought, they transfer. Just take proven guys from other teams at the end of each season. It worked just fine for Jerome Tang.
I totally agree with this. It'll be interesting in 5 years and go back and see what % of the top 100 spent 2+ years at their original school. Kids don't want to develop, nor do they want to wait their turn. Just go get guys every year.

A player that we didn’t think we’d have to worry about it…. I hopped on here to mention it was well.. removed @ illinimbb and changed his profile pick.

Wonder if the coaching staff were truly the reason he deleted “I’m coming back” tweet.

We can't pretend like Adam Miller playing for a completely depleted team (he was basically the only guy that stayed and he didn't play last year/already burned his free transfer) that was almost entirely guys that followed the Coach from Murray State or other schools' rejects would shot as poorly had he been with Illinois the past couple years.

With how much promise both Miller and Curbelo showed as Freshmen, there's no way a better coach isn't turning that into an elite backcourt as Juniors. The fact is that transferring didn't work out for either of them, but that doesn't mean it worked out for us either. And the fact that current Freshmen can see what little good transferring did for those guys, and still want to transfer out anyways... well.. not great.

People need to look at things from the standpoint of how an objective fan would. No neutral fan in the country is looking at Brad Underwood right now and thinking that there's an elite coach there. I'm not saying that to be mean, to be a hater, to be illogical or overly emotional, that's just the stone cold facts of where we're at and how I'd look at Underwood if he was the coach of some random team in a different conference that fancies itself a Basketball school.

Better than Groce is not good enough. I'm not saying there is zero goodwill for winning the Big Ten, but we also need to make a Sweet Sixteen. Another season like this year's, fine, keep him around since it's another NCAA Tournament. A dip though? With all the guys that transfer out? Then nope, he's out of here.
I don't believe this is true.

Looking at records over the past 4 years, 13 other Big Ten teams might not agree.

Kofi couldn't wait to leave Illinois, let's recap, freshman year declared (which was super lol considering how raw his game was), got told no and came back, second year declared (and was so ready to go he started selling all his stuff), got told no, went to the portal and came back after Kentucky chose Tshiebwe. Third year was a first team All American that hinted that Underwood was hindering his pro potential, declared and didn't make the NBA, and is in a Japanese B League.

I don't really see much proof that he is an Underwood man through and through. That's just the Coach he played for.
I don't believe this is true either.

Did anyone here ever play sports in HS and and actually get coached? We had a guy on our team named Mike but if you just listened to our coach you'd swear his last name was Mike and his first name was D*****. Mike turned out just fine.

Also, I know why TSJ used that clip but that's not even the best underwood yell job vs northwestern. During the covid year, we were down 25 vs the kitties and underwood called time out to 'aggressively counsel' the team per the commentators. With no fans in the stands the TV picked up all of Brad's rant. Based on him yelling you would think the team folded, right? No, we turned a 25 point deficit into a 15 point win
Yes. Both hs and college. Walked around for eight years with half my a@@ missing. Just sayin'.

They weren’t. Dainja just did the same thing. So did Goode. It’s never been some protocol by the staff.

Normal, Illinois
We win a game during the season and the post-game thread struggles to add pages after the initial reaction, but a thread about Illini basketball two weeks after the season ends, oh baby you better believe we can have 24 pages and counting in less than two full days. It will always crack me up how much more people would rather b*tch than celebrate our success.
Feel like the last couple years people have been trying to maintain an aura of doom and gloom around the program. I still see people say we shouldn't be happy with "mediocrity." A lot of programs would love to have our idea of mediocrity.

Is anyone staying or they are all afraid of the coach. How will the effect the incoming freshmen?
