Good grief. Everyone that actually follows Illinois Basketball knows that if you can't/won't play defense, you aren't going to see the floor and/or hear about it from Brad non stop.

If that were true, Brad would have benched Mayer for no defense/no effort. He didn’t until the very last 10 minutes of the season.

Blaming these guys for transferring out bc they can’t play defense is bs. What freshmen is good at defense? Very few.

Skyy Clark simply wasn’t good enough. Makes sense he transferred out.

But the other guys:

Adam Miller- was a good player. Never should have left.

Podz- misevaluation by the staff.

Andre Curbelo- dynamic talent that the staff couldn’t get the most out of.

Jayden Epps- very promising freshmen season. Left anyway.

When your employees leave the company, it’s the company’s fault.

Hawkins cited the fact that if he returns he wants to see experience at the guard spot.
Shannon tweeted out that you shouldn't come here if you can't handle the heat.

I have a feeling that there will be no 2022-2023 basketball team reunion in the future!
Your interpretation of TSJ's tweet is interesting...and different than mine.

First, I interpreted your post as thinking Shannon's tweet was aimed at CoHawk. I didn't.

TSJ's tweet was directed at the player who just entered the portal, the one who refused to go back into a game, the one who wouldn't look at BU (or I might steal Coach Yellyface from Heisenbobble because that gave me the best laugh I've had in a while)...

Did anyone here ever play sports in HS and and actually get coached? We had a guy on our team named Mike but if you just listened to our coach you'd swear his last name was Mike and his first name was D*****. Mike turned out just fine.

Also, I know why TSJ used that clip but that's not even the best underwood yell job vs northwestern. During the covid year, we were down 25 vs the kitties and underwood called time out to 'aggressively counsel' the team per the commentators. With no fans in the stands the TV picked up all of Brad's rant. Based on him yelling you would think the team folded, right? No, we turned a 25 point deficit into a 15 point win

Yes, played in college.

I was a very good center fielder but marginally good hitter in high school, and my head was sometimes sort of in the clouds worrying about girls and being cool and whatnot. My coach was on me constantly, often pretty harsh. I remember bitching about it to my friend who never played and he just laughed and said, "Dude, at least he yells at you..."

Coaches know when to give up, and they'll only get worked up if they REALLY want to get the potential out of a player. And a player is lucky if he realizes this early enough to be motivated by it and improve!
That's better than my HS baseball story, where I was given 2 at-bats my entire junior year (and went 1 for 2) and, at the end of the season, the coach told me "you had a good year, son." It took all I had not to tell him off.

I would like to announce that I plan to avoid the NFL fan draft, and not enter the fan transfer portal, and return to Illinois as an enthusiastic fan for the upcoming season.

I always liked both ... but my opinions of both CoHawk and TSJ have SKYROCKETED in the past couple weeks! They were pretty clearly NOT the problem last year, and I desperately hope both are back. This can still be a very good team with some relatively minor tweaks.
I do hope Shannon and Hawkins get a chance to play in the NBA. Having typed that, I hope it means another year in Champaign. With those two potentially coming back, BU's making the tournament and having a nice run--IMO.

If this comes to fruition, BU needs to figure out how to utilize CH more effectively. He needs to post up a lot more, back in and score those baby hooks or dish to an open man.

Mr. Shannon--you're the go-to guy. Play all out and keep taking the ball to the hoop--no time off. You behind the arc? Take the darn shot without a worry. Keep driving to score, get fouled or dish to the open guy.

I didn't see that in his comments, maybe in this translation?

तथा, यदि न (IL इत्यत्र तस्य परितः समुचितं दलं), पोर्टलस्य प्रयासं करिष्यति

He did mention an NT-capable team. So, it is implied.

I thought, and rightly so, he was giving BU one chance to get it right. No more experimenting with FR PGs. At least that is how I read it.

Interesting quote from Coleman (via Rothstein)

“I want to be on a roster that has a chance to do something big — win a national title,” Hawkins said. “I hope if I do come back that we will have a more veteran team and a chance of being a really great team.”

Sounds like someone who’s absolutely entertaining coming back. Also sounds like someone who was annoyed by the antics of young guys like Skyy and Epps this year.. putting the pressure on Brad to put together a good, veteran roster
And it also sounds like a someone who if he does come back to college he won’t be looking to play at a different school.
