I got it. He’s an accomplished, skilled d-bag. I’ll just hope that we opt for a strategic path towards winning that doesn’t involve Hunter Dickinson. Of which there, are MANY.
If HD does come to Illinois, I foresee a big NIL deal from John Deere, being that he runs down the court like he’s pushing a lawn mower…

I agree with almost everything you stated, but the hired gns. Our coaches are hired guns worth millions, Alumni like me worth a ton, University's who have made billions on top of billions on the back of these athletes.
where a education and a possible future in pro sports or an outstanding degree gives you a chance to seek and strive for the American dream. They build buildings, Stadiums, student enrollment, Alumni loyalty and donor dollars to solve disease and develop new technology.
They have always been hired guns Without pay. Does it need adjustment somehow, probably. But these athletes deserve to get paid and have freedom the same as: Coaches, athletic directors, and fans. I say fans because we can support at a moment anyone or anything we want. With our passion and Check books. 50 yrs old by the way! I get it 💯
Billions?

While I tend to disregard any Curbelo back to Illini speculation, Jay Wright said something on the broadcast the other day when talking about Nowell, really about these types of dynamic new york guards, how you just have to take the good with the bad, and let them do their thing. The creativity and dynamism of these types of players has that unique x factor. Perhaps a recruting geography that our staff needs to prioritize for guard play?

Brucks,
Since atleast 1970 and Kareem, Magic, and explosion of Jordan Georgetown, etc.. Universities have made Billions on sports and the players. The amount of alumni revenue, fan attendance, TV contracts. Yes Billions brother
??
I can't remember what documentary it was I watched a year or 2 back but on it said the ncaa made hundreds of millions off the Larry bird vs magic Johnson game back in the day alone after sales and etc and that was back then just off 1 game with inflation alone that'd probably be at least a billion in today's $$

I want Dickinson on the Illini, but only if he comes out like Hulk Hogan did when joined the NWO!
I want him on the Illinois so I could bench him

Oops, Bash beat me to it

I just did a little research in 1979 when Bird vs. Magic happened. Little old Ncaa was worth 5.6 million. 1985 Little old Ncaa signed a 1.8 billion dollar contract for 8 years with CBS. Yes Sir, billions upon billions. And the young men of the University of Illinois and across the country deserve to be compensated. What that is? I do not know.

Wright was talking about turnovers and poor shot selection, not suspensions and wearing out your welcome on teams.

There are not any, he is the best option at 5 in portal. His 3 years in Big10 nearly 19pt per game and 9 boards. And he hits free throws. Imagine what he possibly could help Dainja with in practice. Dainja hadn't played in 2 year and IMO did awesome this year. The better players you have in Practice, better the position is! Now if he's a ScUM bag of course," Hard pass". But I respect someone who loves his school, Produces since Year 1! And talks a little smack. No problem and we talk smack to him because our Man Kofi was The only big who Owned him! Just my Thoughts!
You’re taking about JUST the portal…AND what’s available POTENTIALLY available in the portal right at the present moment.

This Hunter Dickinson we’re talking about…the whole thing is either an elaborate, idiotic April Fools Joke lol…or he’s going somewhere like Puke 🤮 (because ego) or Maryland because (home 🏠 ) Just my guess.

Exactly. When you give your dynamic players freedom they’re gonna make mistakes. They’re gonna take some dumb shots because “I can hit that though.” (Usually, they can)

Jay Wright is a fascinating listen for me. His teams were known for being so sound, and literally making the fewest mistakes in college basketball. He must have been a master at balancing freedom and control.

I think I’ve posted this before (sorry if I have my brain is mush after both swimming and baking the last 2 days at Texas Relays on a combined 10 hours of sleep—btw every time they announced an Illini athlete they were NOT there 🤷🏻‍♂️), but Jay Wright also said it’s not about the percentage you shoot, but the number of 3s you make, while announcing one of our games. He continued on to say that if you make 10, you’re probably gonna win. I found that super interesting.

Fingers crossed for Maryland so we actually have a chance against them and BU can get that monkey off his back.

Billions?

This is only for the broadcast rights for the NCAA tournament.

"The new contract has a rights fee of $8.8 billion. The original, 14-year deal was at $10.8 billion. A lot of money to broadcast one of the biggest sporting events in the world."

That's broadcast rights. No ticket fees, no jersey sales, no concession stands, no regular season games or conference tournaments, etc.. And one of the reasons Universities invest in their sports programs is because they are effective marketing that increases student applications. There's all kinds of other knock-off effects that go with teams to their local economies. Don't get me wrong, programs that are run poorly have so many expenses that the programs run a deficit, but there's a TON of money to be had in the revenue sports.
