If we didn't lose 4 of the last 5, would we have more buzzThis might be a distinction without a difference: it's definitely not panic time. The staff has earned trust and a looooong runway based on the first two years. Plus, if they told me someone like Resetich is a top-15 in-state player, I'll believe them. That said, I'm sure they know the '24 in-state class isn't trending like the first two years. It's also okay to say that's disappointing after such a good 2022 season, thinking that would help push the program's recruiting success forward, even incrementally.
Gonna create a big, big budget arms race, wow.
1. I am wondering if this is a "we can't police this anymore, so why bother having this rule" deal?Gonna create a big, big budget arms race, wow.
And for no real purpose. Why would they do this?
Kind of fascinating to me that both Konkel and Feagin were 2A guys (Feagin's team was the 2A playoffs last year) from non-traditional powers and non state title contenders. Was there that many recruits from small schools (3A or smaller) outside the top tier programs (I remember one kid from Orion).6' 6" 225 TE (2024) from Pinkneyville:
Probably not, although I think Luke Ford would fit those parameters.Kind of fascinating to me that both Konkel and Feagin were 2A guys (Feagin's team was the 2A playoffs last year) from non-traditional powers and non state title contenders. (Maybe this happened more often than I think before I got into recruiting)
I should have chosen my previous words better lol, but GCMS won 2 state titles and plays in a conference that ran 2A for several seasons in a row (and also lost to an eventually 2015 state champ in Arcola by 1 point in 2015, in a year Arcola destroyed everyone else they played). GCMS might not be in "perennial contender" status (which is my bad if I jumped the gun on them). but in the food chain is much higher than my alma mater, ALAH (Feagin's school), and seems light years ahead of Pinckeyville (Konkel's school, which last year's 3-6 record was their best season in several seasons, gulp).RB Aidan Laughery was our highest rated recruit in the 2022 recruiting class. Know they won state while Laughery was on team but they float between 1A and 2A. Made a few runs but not a perennial powerhouse plus not a ton of guys on the roster.
All good I know you what meant. I know the GCMS program quite well as have some family and friends in Gibson City still to this day. They had a great coach(retired) and few real good classes that overlapped for a 5-6 year period. They are 1A again now and haven't had a winning season since 2019. Laughery and Bryce Barnes played huge roles on those teams.I should have chosen my previous words better lol, but GCMS won 2 state titles and plays in a conference that ran 2A for several seasons in a row (and also lost to an eventually 2015 state champ in Arcola by 1 point in 2015, in a year Arcola destroyed everyone else they played). I think that is it. They are relaxing the rules and deregulating college sports, in line with the NIL changes.1. I am wondering if this is a "we can't police this anymore, so why bother having this rule" deal?
2. Places like Hawaii is going to weaponize this!
Not sure I see a budget arms race. If I am reading it right, athletes can have more than 5, not seeing an approval in an increase in the limit a school can host.Gonna create a big, big budget arms race, wow.
