i think we are going to see and slightly different defense. not all the time, but less man to man coverages, more run/pass blitzing and stunts from a softer zone coverage. this defensive backfield will be good to average and the front 6/7 will have to step up. good against the run, force 3rd and long and hit the QB. teams that throw on first down (not typically the big ten) could gash us.
I don’t know much about football schematics, but I do know a great defensive line, like the one we have, makes your defense better, and allows you to do a little more than you could normally do.
If we also find the next ball hawking safety for our system, I think it opens up the man-cover 1 stuff we’ve been doing. In theory the d line doesn’t let the qb have enough time to throw deep, and you can leverage to take away the preferred quick routes the opponent uses, so the corners don’t have to cover as long.
My personal favorite coverage is cover 4, so from a selfish standpoint with absolutely no basis on our personnel, it’d be cool to see us be successful with that if we move to zone looks.
