They are in active talks with the staff about who they recruiting and they both would be happy with both of the main options they will look at
Kinda of surprised this wouldn't have been settled long ago (at least a prioritized list) - as if - as soon as we think RayJ isn't coming, we offer XYZ immediately. They're just talking/deciding about it now? I had a suspicion RayJ may flake out 2 weeks ago.

I don't really care what name is on the back of the PG's jersey, but I do care about how successful they are and how successful the team is in March and hopefully April.

If the PG is not successful or a far cry from the success Dennis shows, and the team underperforms again in March/doesn't make it out of the first weekend again, then Underwood's seat should be red hot, and rightfully so. Ultimately, it is time to perform in March and at least make the S16 multiple times. Who the players are that help get us there is not of much concern to me.

When was the last time that this program has had a coach that took the program to the Sweet 16 multiple times(multiple being 3 or more)? That's the bar you're setting.

Still, having one on the roster is different than just recruiting them. I hope that happens prior to next Wednesday.

Nothing specific about Illinois. More so of what he needs to do with the ball in his hands all the time. Who do you think would get the ball at the end of games-Shannon or him?

So his NBA feedback was...probably just stay at Toledo where you can be ball dominant?

Why transfer if they want him to always have the ball?

Folks this won’t be the last time this happens. The landscape of college basketball has dramatically changed with NIL, transfer grads and social media. Years back people wouldn’t even know about recruits that backed out last second because Twitter and fan platforms didn’t exist. It’s just par for the course so buckle up or log off.

Maybe it breaks down like this or similar? --

Toledo - 50k NIL, can be Mr. Everythying
Utah - 300k NIL, can also be Mr. Everything here as well
Illinois - 600k NIL, would be 3rd/4th scoring option

NBA scout/organization feedback is invest in your future (rather than take the bigger NIL *right now*) and go to Utah.

Purely hypothetical, but if this is what his options are maybe he thinks it makes sense?

I find it to be the opposite. We don't need a PG to come in here and put up 16 shot attempts per game, we need a guy who can setup & run the offense. We have Shannon as a primary scorer. This is also why RayJ is going to Utah (he can be the primary, well, everything there - which won't work here at Illinois). Yuri is 2 inches shorter than RayJ so not a huge downgrade in terms of size. Anyone remember how tall Markquis Nowell is?
I agree with this along with the fact that after last season we need more shooting from the PG position. Hell, we need better outside shooting from the entire roster. This board was clamoring to add more shooting at seasons end.. Some improved shooting has been addressed at other positions.

Exposure and higher level of competition throughout the season to start. If he stayed at Toledo, it would have been the same exact measuring stick even if he produced a little more.

Also, my gut tells me he’ll be getting more $ at Utah than Toledo. Just a hunch.

Go Illini

He should have closed. But sometimes guys just change their minds and there is nothing you can do. RayJ wanted to come to Illinois, but certain NBA feedback he got pushed him away from that
This makes a bit more sense, but IndyIllini was adamant that it was about NIL and RJD just wanted to push up the offer as much as possible. Are you of the opinion NIL was not a top factor for RJD?

But will he be the starting point guard in Utah? What are they going to do with the 5'11" guy they just brought in? He's not playing SG. Or their returning PG starter? Not saying Dennis wouldn't be their best one, but there is certainly not unlimited minutes at the PG spot there

FFS.

Get that garbage outta here.

I’ll say this @LvilleILL and @Indy Illini Fan , I appreciate you guys coming on here during the immediate aftermath of something like this.

You could easily put it away for a few days because of all the sh*tbirds sending shade your way but you get on here and own it as if you were the one that missed out on the recruit.

Something you don’t have to do in the slightest.

Mad respect.

If he is the best one, most likely will be, then when it matters there will be no time constraints on him. Especially at the PG position.
