Too soonSo… you’re saying everything is fine?
Larry Smith made 2 of 7 three pointers as a sophomore and 3 of 8 as junior. Those are season totals, not per game. So basically irrelevant to your point."The FI had Bardo starting at PG, although he isn't your prototype there. "
Steve Bardo took only a couple of three point shots per game, but he made nearly 50% of them. He also averaged more than two assists for every turnover he made. Larry Smith had similar assist to TO numbers in 88-89. Larry shot nearly 40% from 3. Who do we have anywhere on our team who demonstrated any kind of evidence that they might be capable of putting up these kinds of numbers this coming season?

These kind of posts are boner pills to middle aged men who love sports but can’t find things to be excited about in their choice of team.

My guess is that all of Smith and Bardo 3-point shots would have been long 2’s on today’s court.Larry Smith made 2 of 7 three pointers as a sophomore and 3 of 8 as junior. Those are season totals, not per game. So basically irrelevant to your point.
Bardo made 3 of 8 as a soph. Nothing to indicate he would make 29 of 59 in 36 games as a junior. I watched all those games. Bardo's 3 point shooting was like the season Da'Monte made 35 - 64 in 31 games. He only took good looks, and made them, despite a slow, kind of ugly release.
Among the current guards, the 2 freshmen are probably the best shooters, and Moretti is a slick passer, but they likely won't be ready to contribute defensively. Harmon can shoot from three a little bit. Williams, if healthy, might be most similar to Bardo.
Among the wings, Goode, Shannon, and Damask can shoot from 3. Damask and Rodgers are very good passers.
Bigs Hawkins, Guerrier, and Hansberry can spot and shoot with three point range. Hawkins, Dainja, and Hansberry have plus passing skills.
The talent and skills are there if the coaches can get them using those skills and playing as a team.
Well, they would be considered bad shots. LOL.My guess is that all of Smith and Bardo 3-point shots would have been long 2’s on today’s court.

Harris is really athletic and has a great motor.Like Harris’s physical length and quickness for the PG position. If he can handle the ball he should be able to penetrate and ball handling would be easiest skill to improve. Playing off him would just aid his passing as we have seen how an offense can be interrupted by on ball pressure (I.e Trent and Harris last year). However he would have to make the midrange shots ala Curbelo and that is a difficult skill to develop in a year. Would love to see him as the man but have to have my Orange glasses to get there.
Always...He must know something.
Many of your comments are accurate.Harris is really athletic and has a great motor.
I don't ever see him being a lead guard. Plays at one speed and does not see the floor or plays developing. Ball skills are raw and really has no consistent jump shot from anywhere.
Not sure he plays much this year if all of these guys we're bringing in are eligible.
Because we aren’t UNC?Why can't we get crazy hot and lucky like that in the tourney????
does Podz like cottage cheese?
If Harris were to grow a couple more inches and gain 20 pounds I would eaisly see him being a Scottie Pippen like defensive player.Harris is really athletic and has a great motor.

Thanks for sharing. Kofi averaged more per season but Augie… Wow! Is he one of the most underrated Illini of recent memory? We probably win a NC if the referees allowed him to play defense and rebound under the same rules as Sean May.If Harris were to grow a couple more inches and gain 20 pounds I would eaisly see him being a Scottie Pippen like defensive player.
Be nice to find a Dennis Rodman like rebounder 13.1 rebounds per game in 31.7 avg minutes per game.
