We old guys have to accept that recruiting has drastically changed, at least for the time being, due to the combination of Covid years, immediately eligible grad transfers, one time penalty free undergrad transfers, and NIL money.

In the past, rosters were built with high school recruits, supplemented by an occasional transfer. Now, they're pretty much built with immediately eligible transfers, supplemented by an occasional high school recruit.

It should balance out a little, once the end of Covid years reduces the supply of grad transfers, along with the NCAA cracking down on waivers for 2nd time transfers.
I don't think the transfer portal fundamentally changes the fact that you need class balance. Yes you have to accept that the portal is here to say and adjust accordingly. Really my main point is you don't have to take nothing but players with only 1 year of eligibility. There are players out there from every class in the portal.

I would have been looking at guys like Jalen Cook, Mike Mitchell Jr, Khalif Battle, AJ Storr, Shawn Phillips, etc. Yes, I know you don't get to just pick your players, and I realize some experienced players can certainly help. I definitely wouldn't avoid Srs, I just wouldn't make them the only guys I take.

I think a good example could be instead of taking Domask and Harmon, you take Domask and AJ Storr. Storr helps replace the loss of Epps and Clark, you get better balance to your classes, and Storr looks like the better player to me anyway. Just a simple example of how you can still be aggressive in the portal without tossing class balance out the window.

Dude… he played with Ayo

Apparently, one of my teammates was a top-five fourth-grader in Illinois. There was a lot of buzz circulating him. It ended up being Illinois’s starting point guard, Ayo Dosunmu. He was my teammate and his dad was actually my first coach.”

Although Williams was still at a young age, he recalls Ayo pushing him in practices, which forced Max to have a tough and gritty mindset.

They do understand all of this. You take who you can get at the time. It's a game of musical chairs and we do not want to be left standing at certain
positions of need.
We are going to be better than last year.
We kept TSJ for 2 years which is a career anywhere nowadays.

They went after Storr. They did get Williams who has a couple years left it appears.
Tried to get him last year.

And we are not done yet this year.

Hey, he is good enough to walk on and be a practice guy at a D1 P5 school. I am willing to bet that you can count on one hand the number of guys on this board who were on a P5 D1 roster.
He could be starting for a D3 or NAIA school somewhere probably.
Good luck to him.

Fans are gonna love him at the end of the Michigan game when we are up by 30

Wow this is the recruiting thread and we got a commitment and everyone is so focused on our PG situation. Sure a walk on, but now an Illini.

Yep, and we should take seriously coaches who say they want their roster to get old and stay old.

Havent been on since TJ and Hawk announced. Came on here to see if Pail Mulcahy might be a grad transfer option since he hasnt said a word about anything yet. Read about three pages and looks like it might be??

Sorry, I dont have time to sift through 29 pages to see if thats what this gif is even about, haha!
