Illinois 30, Toledo 28 Postgame

Been one hell of a week. My dad passed away last week and I think this is the first Illinois game I’ve ever watched without him. I’d like to think he pulled some strings upstairs for that fourth down play
Sorry to hear that. 😟 I’m thinking you’re right about him pulling those strings for our Illini. My thoughts are with you and your dad.

There’s no good play when your right tackle gets their doors blown off.
I really don't get what was going on there tonight. Looked like the RT was struggling to get off the line all night on the snap. I want to say that Kreutz's snap wasn't quite lining up with the count, but at the same time, you can't be that flatfooted as an RT. Getting straight out smoked multiple times by a MAC player is not something that should happen

Did we adjust our D scheme significantly? I remember us not being as passive last year. Felt like we were doing a lot of engaging blocks and just peeking around to see the play. Never felt like we were disruptive in any way.

The O put some good things together, Altmyer appears to be the real deal. Take the W and keep improving!
I think we were rushing more to contain than to penetrate.

Couldn’t tell from the overhead view they kept showing, did jacas actually hit the qb or was he tripped up into him?

The good news is, the biggest improvement usually comes between games 1 and 2.

Did Clayton Bush play the 2nd half?

Altmyer should only get better...very impressed with his pocket presence, he moves better then i thought and the thing I love the most...

He sits in the pocket. I love that he stands tall. He scans, is willing to take a hit and then has the arm to sling it in.

Im looking forward to watching his progress.

So I’m watching the game on the Fox Sports app. Right before the kick, the feed stops. Definitely said some words that would get me into trouble if I stated them here. Luckily I was listening to the radio feed in the game thread and heard he made it.

So glad we pulled it out. What a miracle 4th down conversion.

I knew this was going to be close. Toledo’s QB is experienced and they have a lot of P5 transfers. Guessing that’s a 10 win team we just played.

It was close for reasons I wouldn’t have guessed. I would have thought that their QB keeping plays alive and our inexperienced secondary would have led to some big plays on busted coverages. I did not expect both our Oline and Dlines to get pushed around. But I think both lines will gel and find their groove. There were flashes tonight.

But Luke was far and away the bright spot. I didn’t watch much of the Purdue game, but other than Card, I saw Minnesota, Nebraska, Wisconsin and Iowa play and there is not another QB in the west I would trade for him. Most poised. Quickest release. Best timing/accuracy. And at a minimum fast enough to keep defenses honest.

Too many dumb penalties but those can be fixed. I like our ceiling!

Would love to see Leonhard give some words of wisdom to Henry and the defense.

Would love for Lunney to get a clue and embrace it for the entire season.

Bret , on the post game radio interview said that...................

We had way to many penalties
We gave them 10 points on the Barnes personal foul in the 1st half that led to a FG , and the Jacas personal foul that led to their late TD
Had a lot of injuries and need to hydrate better and stay disciplined better

How anyone can NOT be excited about our comeback win tonite is beyond me.........................It really really is.......................

I want to thank the Ancients for their help in the win tonite.......That's all I can say , as I'm sworn to secrecy...I really really am...

And then teach them how to make more noise. I was shaking my head when I could hear "let's go Rockets" on television when we were on defense late in the 4th quarter up 5 points.
This is a real problem, I agree. I wish we’d go back to ILL INI side to side instead of student section to rest of stadium. They need to guide this via the Jumbotron and side displays.

Jacas hit him. Maybe he got caught up a little but it was after the play at that point and he has to hold off at that point. Was a really bad penalty in my opinion that a ref will call at least 99 times out of 100.

Abhorrent fan behavior from students talking !!!! and leaving for 2 quarters then coming back in the final minute in section 110. The cops did their job and figured out who was in the wrong. Keep your 20 year Olds away from the visitors section.

Anyways, good luck the rest of the way. Toledo will be fired up the rest of the way.
