I can't be the only person who thinks a Big Ten school isn't where an OC or DC should "learn on the job"? Save that crap for the sun belt. This it's supposed to be big boy football not "let's give my buddy or my son a chance here".
Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe this is 100% on talent and lack of depth (which is also the responsibility of the coaches to address) and not scheme. But every single team loses players to the draft, graduation, and transfers. They alone can't explain how terrible we were on defense, primarily at the end of halfs and games (which I would argue is mostly scheme based).
It's both.

We don't have the talent to compete with the top teams in the Big Ten, but great coaching can make up for that.

I'm willing to still believe that Bielema is a great head coach, but I didn't think Lunney was any good last year, and this year has only confirmed that. I don't think Henry was bad, but he certainly wasn't good, and when I see Jim Leonhard sitting in the coaching room, I'm asking why the heck is he not the DC?

When you don't have a talent advantage, and you don't have a coaching advantage, what do you have?

Lunney must be fired, Henry must be downgraded to Co-DC (at best). If he doesn't like that and wants to leave, well bye.

Then we need to find some large men on both sides of the line that can play.

my comment had more to do with MSU vs openings or potential openings at other schools . signing this early is a little " unusual "
Michigan State is probably the second best job that will be open this cycle. With Oregon state basically being a mountain west school now this is a no brainier.

Dana Dimel out after 6 seasons at UTEP. Only one winning season as head coach of the Miners which was in 2021 when they finished 7-6, losing to Fresno State in the New Mexico Bowl.

Robby Discher … He wasn’t the one dropping punts and fumbling …

I thought he improved the room this year overall … No reason to make a change …

Does he have the authority to give the green/red light on Kick Returns?

Because if he does, he needs to put that red light on immediately and should have the whole season.

Exerting 0 effort gets us 1/4 of the way down the field for free.

I bet an analysis of our KRs would show WAY more often than not we didn’t get out to the 25 when we decided to return it.

As I’ve said I’ve been a season ticket holder as a student and to the present since the Mike White era and I fully believe we have the best coach in my lifetime since then. I did believe in mackovic as a good successor to White but by the time he left, overall talent was slipping. The Tepper hire I disagreed with because he was an untried coordinator and at the time we were the second winningest big ten school to tOSU and could have conducted a national search and have Iowa’s recent history.

Turner’s lack of college experience concerned me.

Zook’s inability to win at Florida concerned me.

Beckman? Who was impressed at his introductory presser?

Lovie? Well 26 years away from college ball?

I always hoped for the best but every coaching hire since White/Mackovic started with concerns.

Bielema is clearly the most experienced, complete Power 5 coach we’ve hired over all this time.

I have no doubts we’ll see the results we seek in time.

is growing up 10 miles apart and pretty much the same age as Bielema enough to get Holgorsen as our OC?
I have mixed feelings on Holgosen, Houston and WVU (and Okie St fans too probably) have the same complaints about him as we have on Lunney plus Holgorsen has the partying rep that Bielema has shaken off here.

Our kick off returns and punt returns hurt us this year.

Well, that is a problem, because Jamison is already the Co-DC. We basically have to let Henry go or keep him, as I highly doubt there is a situation he'd return as a position coach....maybe I'm wrong.

Also, to the insiders, is Henry truly the only DC or why isn't Jamison taking any heat?

The same reason nobody said anything about our secondary coaches last year. elite dudes in their position rooms

I think Elko as right of a choice as you can get at A&M with Jeff Traylor being his best competition for that job.

Feels like Indiana is at a crossroads where they need to decide if they want to be good at football. The infrastructure of the program just doesn't seem to be there.

So many of our mistakes this season were individuals screwing. Like Indy said, Discher didn't muff punts and fumble on kickoffs, and that same thought process applies to the offense and the defense. Lunney didn't miss a block leading to a sack or drop a pass. Henry didn't get beat in man or miss a tackle. I don't like playcalling sometimes and neither do some of you, but the most complicated playcalling experience most fans have comes from Madden, 95% of us don't know !!!!. You can't put all the blame on coordinators and call for their heads when most of the issues stem from individuals not doing their job. I'm not 100% sure who should get the blame for that coaching-wise, but my guess would be position coaches more than anything which is likely why insiders have already mentioned that they expect movement in those areas this off season.
