Yes the absolute measurables are better today for all the reasons stated here. That is not the point. Sedino said as much:
I can't transport today's athletes back in time, therefore what I care about is a player's relative athleticism vs his peers. Those players back in 1989 and 2005 were demonstrably better at basketball and dominated other players and teams. There was a wider gulf between them and other players.
Maybe that is not the 'pure physical specimen' argument that Sedino puts forth, but it's my eye test.
