DePaul a stretch?
That job is a trap. That's why I mentioned NIU. MAC has taken a step back the past few years. Dee could win at NIU and it's high enough up that you could land a pretty good gig.
DePaul a stretch?
NIL was supposed to be for players like Caitlin Clark to ink individual endorsement deals. The system is totally bastardized now.
Teflon Juwan escapes yet again. How in the world has this guy not been terminated for cause yet?
Michigan strength coach resigns after absence
Jon Sanderson has resigned as a strength and conditioning coach at Michigan, two-plus months after he stopped working with the men's basketball program under coach Juwan Howard.www.espn.com
Let's not rush to judgement. He should stay as long as he wants to stay and keep scUM basketball irrelevant...Teflon Juwan escapes yet again. How in the world has this guy not been terminated for cause yet?

Not sure this is strictly true. He has good recruits coming in and has had strong classes in past years... the issue is that he seems to struggle with in-game coaching.Makes me think the boosters aren't looking to replace him after this season, which is a head-scratcher given that program's trajectory. They've had multiple incidents with him at games, declines in recruiting, this clash with what is by all accounts an outstanding long-serving staff member, the damning Hunter exit, and a remarkably bad run in the conference (lost last 7, 3-16 overall). Fun fact, Sanderson's son is just a soph, but ranked top-50 for 2026, so it was just one more reason to try and keep him if they were going to turn over Howard.

All fair points. I was asking an honest question since the last time we played them there was speculation that he was being kept to hold onto recruitsDon't claim to be an expert on UM classes, but using the 247 composite rankings:
2021 - 3rd 3 top 50 (nearly 4)
2022 - 9th 2 top 50
2023 - 72nd (a class of mostly transfers tho)
2024 - 20th with a top 50 (solid by any measure)
Is that a trend? Debatable. 2024 is a good class, but he may have quite a few defections after this year. And in this era, the rankings really need to include transfers to have a sense of how a program is doing, so there's a big x-factor involved.
FYI, higher ranked classes from the BIG:
Rutgers -3
Purdue - 10
MSU - 13
USC - 14
ILL - 19
He's a legend. Went to high school with his three sons. All excellent players in their own right.Might be time for Doug Bruno to retire as head coach of Depaul women's basketball and hand over the position to his former assistant, Bart Brooks (now at Belmont).
Other coaching names that stand out:
Fairfield coach Carly Thibault-Dudonis, a former Golden Gopher assistant
Former University of Chicago coach Aaron Roussell (now at Richmond). Roussell builds winners everywhere he goes.

If Dee got a shot at DePaul, he'd take it. They're bad, but it's still a Big East job. There aren't many. That job is a trap. That's why I mentioned NIU. MAC has taken a step back the past few years. Dee could win at NIU and it's high enough up that you could land a pretty good gig.
Didn’t their strength coach have a connection with fletch? His mentor?Teflon Juwan escapes yet again. How in the world has this guy not been terminated for cause yet?

You are probably too young, but in the early 70s, with 6-9 PF Jim Bradley, the Huskies were pretty damn good. They also had a modicum of success later in the 70s and early 80s when John McDougal of West Aurora was the coach. If Dee got a shot at DePaul, he'd take it. They're bad, but it's still a Big East job. There aren't many.
He's too young of a coach to make that type of jump. Going from Roosevelt to a Big East school, regardless of the program....it would never happen.
I'd think that the next stage of his career would come as an assistant at a high D1 program like Powell did, but he's getting crushed at Valpo.
Regarding NIU...who has EVER won at NIU? And I mean EVER?
I was born in 77, so I would have been young and abd white frankly, I don't remember the Cummings, Aguirre, Corzine days. DePaul had WGN telecasting their games(maybe you can confirm)....so they had a pretty good media following. Dave Leito had a nice run with them, then Pat Kennedy did a decent job with Quentin Richardson, Bobby Simmons(should have been ours) and Imari Sawyer. That was a team that, I think, got into the second round. You are probably too young, but in the early 70s, with 6-9 PF Jim Bradley, the Huskies were pretty damn good. Jim Molinari — only for a couple seasons before Bradley poached him, but took them to NCAA tourney. If Dee got a shot at DePaul, he'd take it. They're bad, but it's still a Big East job. There aren't many.

It seems like a quick trigger on Yaklich. He seemed like a good hire for UIC and I think is generally considered a very good coach but other than a short 2 season span or so, UIC has never really been a winning program. It is kind of like DePaul- I think it is a place that coaching careers come to a dead end.Dee's agent must be getting calls. How about Dee at UIC? Too awkward to fire Yaklich and then replace him with his former assistant?
He shouldn't. You have to choose a place where you have a chance to succeed. I don't think that's happening at DePaul and I feel bad for Roger but I don't think that's happening these days at Valpo either. The days where Valpo could compete for players and have those successful runs like the Drews had are unfortunately a thing of the past I think. Valpo would probably be better off in a different conference even but I understand that isn't happening. If Dee got a shot at DePaul, he'd take it. They're bad, but it's still a Big East job. Two years at an NAIA school to DePaul — seems about right. Seriously, way too much of a stretch. If DePaul hired him, it is further proof they need to get out of Big East — and fire AD.DePaul a stretch?
They did have a terrible AD, and the new guy hasn't done much. They should have built an arena close to campus instead they got enamored with City politics and agreed to play at Wintrust Arena--thinking they could draw from the whole City. Sure, it was better than Rosemont, but it was such a wasted opportunity. The ideal location would have been Lincoln Yards which is walking distance from campus. Two years at an NAIA school to DePaul — seems about right. Seriously, way too much of a stretch. Valpo was 11-21 last year which got coach Matt Lottich fired after 7 years. He shouldn't. You have to choose a place where you have a chance to succeed.
