We’re good on NIL. We’re number 1 in the conference now. We could realistically pay a player whatever they wanted. That won’t happen though.
Number 1 - wow. Is that due to our apportioning more to hoops than football relative to other schools?

I get it, we're not paying it. But there definitely is a finite amount of money so any $$ that go to Storr are not available for other players that we might want Brad to recruit.

right. NIL isn't exactly a zero sum game, but it's close (turnips can only be squeezed so much). as always, the devil is in the details. if Storr's ask is too much, he won't be playing for us

Just for comparisons:

True Sophomore Terrance Shannon
12.9 PPG
4 RPG
1.4 APG
44.8%/35.7%/75.6% shooting splits
114.8 Offensive Rating
95.3 Defensive Rating
21.1 PER

True Sophomore AJ Storrs
16.2 PPG
3.7 RPG
1.0 APG
43.5%/31.4%/81.3% shooting splits
109.7 Offensive Rating
110.3 Defensive Rating
19.6 PER

Efficiency needs to improve, defense has to improve. That said, he's showing that he can carry the offensive load at a younger age than Shannon. That bodes well for when he further develops and has a better supporting cast. Sign me up.

That's Christopher Kirkpatrick, an amazing young talent. Because he is from New Trier, he will probably attend Stanford or an Ivy League school.

I'd like Storr a lot but also would hope there would be more additions to come.

Having Storr as more of a 2nd/3rd option would be a good team. I'd be incredibly excited with a Domask return, Storr, a certain big playing in Omaha, and a guard.
I would guess Ryan Kalkbrenner is staying put now that McDermott signed an extension. JMHO.

I think some of the efficiency issues are being asked to carry to the load for Wisconsin since they lack talent on the perimeter imo. Also, Gard's offense sucks.

Think he might excel on a team with more talent around him on the perimeter and that plays a bit more free offensively.

Probably right but I don't think McDermott leaving was ever a real possibility and even then you would think that if he did leave he would attempt to bring Kalkbrenner with him.

Though even if he entered the portal every team in the country would be in on him including a former Illini coach.

I think expecting any player to make the kind of jump that TSJ has from Soph to now is expecting quite a lot. I'll take Storr for sure, but I think if we're giving someone high 6 figures, there are going to be a lot of options available at that price point and I'd like to see who they are before we commit to him.

Exactly, I would rather an underclassmen show they can handle volume early instead of efficiency.

Just my two cents... I feel like the chatter of Storr is premature. I am sure he knows our interest level, but I doubt it is a done deal already (maybe I am wrong). Alot will change over the next couple of months. Coaching changes, draft feedback, kids withdrawing from the draft, waivers, and NIL negotiations can change what happens and who is available. I find it unlikely that Illinois is willing to agree to TSJ money for Storr without a clearer picture of what other options will be available!

Wouldn't say done deal ... But I can say that we were not the ones who initiated the contact ...

^Gonna land some really good players once again this offseason
I have to be the idiot to ask. If we can buy almost any team we want, why do our coaches spend millions of dollars a year traveling the globe watching 16-year olds play ball? Seems like a waste of time and money.

Because we also want kids like Morez Johnson and Jeremiah Fears ...

And Chester finds us diamonds in the rough like Jase Butler ... Remember the name ...

And the other big thing with high school recruiting today is even if they don’t come here initially, we’ll have a second (even third?) chance with them in the portal. That’s probably a big reason we ended up getting QC this year. Those relationships pay dividends down the road.

And TJ ... And Mayer ... And Harmon ... And Feliz ... And Plummer ...

Relationships matter ...
