Curious. When it's all said and done do the Illini end up with anything close to Domask and Shannon?

Domask wasn't thought to be the kind of high-major stud he has been. There were doubts about Shannon too, certainly achieving this kind of level as an offensive player. We got huge bargains on both.

I have to be the idiot to ask. If we can buy almost any team we want, why do our coaches spend millions of dollars a year traveling the globe watching 16-year olds play ball? Seems like a waste of time and money.

And that speaks to this point a bit too. This staff evaluates talent and fit quite well, in addition to forming strong relationships quickly.

It all makes every NIL dollar work harder than it would if you were just blowing all other bids out of the water. No one has limitless money.

It does raise the question of the resource level for high school recruiting though, I agree in that sense. But the landscape is far from settled, I don't think it's an open-and-shut conclusion either way.

I'm very interested to see how many of our HS recruited players are on the 2025-26 team, I think we'll kind of have our answer at that point.

Re: GatorMcKlusky's question:

I do think we will see a slow down on coaches salaries relative to the last decade. Not that there won't be the best making good money, but if your choice is to get the 2nd best and put that extra 2-3M towards a program altering recruit it changes the calculus overall.

To everyone's points: you still need to pay a premium to have a guy that can get the guys, coach them up & doesn't choke when the ball is in play.

Honestly nobody outside the athletic office really knows what "TSJ money" is. Even if it is a ton, who cares? We're not paying it, and I highly doubt this staff is going to blow their entire NIL budget on one guy.
Interesting. If the DIA (part of a public institution) has that information, and the confidentiality of that information is not protected by a law or legal agreement), it should be publicly available. No? Not that I give a rip.

I can’t even imagine the legal mine field all this is. 🤣

I was probably one of the highest ones on here when we landed Domask because his statistical projections and mid major to high major comparables looked pretty fantastic (just for reference, while a different position obviously, he projected as more successful than RayJ would be). The really remarkable thing about Marcus that I don't think anyone saw coming except for maybe Brad is how he was able to deconstruct his game, modify, and evolve it to be incredibly successful at the high major level. The thought was he could be a midrange shooter who when he gets hot has Talor Battle range and would be our clutch shooter late in games, and here he turns into an even better, more surgical Jalen Pickett is a testament to how much work he put in and his flexibility and intelligence as a player. Marcus was projected to be good at this level, but Brad does have a knack for knowing talent when he sees it and developing it into a next level player. Excited to see what the future brings.

Four colleges in four years. New high score! Is that good? (Grandma's Boy reference)

I'm guessing Pepe would approve of his look at North Florida.

Not sure how Pepe will react to the manbun, but it's not going to be positive.

Then his current spot

I don't know anything about him other than above and it makes me wonder if he is an #EveryDayGuy. I'm some rando on the internet though and he is probably a good dude.
