Diebler to Ohio State is a done deal ...

As I reported here days ago ... If he beat us ... The job was his without a doubt ... He got dang close which was good enough for Ohio State ...

Especially since Dusty turned them down ... And Sean turned them down ... And others did as well ...

But they'll spin it positively ... As they should ... Diebler did a great job after taking over ...

You sure you're not Jeff Goodman?

This was my exact reaction ... Fran is reportedly doing whatever he can to get the Michigan job ...

Michigan also has had a couple very large donors say they will pledge HUGE money ... If they can pull one of the 3 coaches they want ... Mainly 1 donor who's putting up 60% of the money so it's kinda what he wants ...

Anyways ...

I am talking salary up to $9 million ... NIL at $4.5 - $5 million ...

I don't know if any of these coaches would take the job ...

Just got off the phone with an agent ... He's hearing the Iowa job may be open as well ...

But it may not be for the reason you think ...

Whoa. Has there ever been a coach switch schools in the BIG?

Why would Michigan want Fran McCaffery? He's been in the conference for 14 seasons, and the best he has ever finished was 3rd. Never made a Sweet 16. One tournament championship is really all he has to show for his time in Iowa City. Never been a great recruiter. He is decidedly ok as a coach.

I could see Fran wanting deeper pockets and more opportunity to win, but not sure why Michigan would share those thoughts. Coming from thinking you're going to get Nate Oats to getting Fran McCaffery is an awfully big drop off. If I'm rich donor X, unless Fran is a personal friend, he is not in my top 3.

He's not on the list of 3 ... But I do think he is on the list of 10 ...

And I need to call some people ... But I think out of Michigan's "top 10" ...

3 would actually take the job and wouldn't just use it to get themselves a raise or more NIL ... Fran would be in that 3 ...

And I agree he's not a great recruiter ... But that dude can coach freaking offense with the best of them ... And he is arguably a top 5 development guy in the country ...

Big Ten experience ... You know you are always going to be competitive ...

Michigan was 8-24 this year ... 8-24 ... They should be a 20 win season year in and year out with the occasional deep run ...

The whole they should be in the natty every year talk that their fan base puts out is delusional ...

Hmmm…what kinda odds do you suppose he has for that? McCaffery must be counting on the luck of the Irish ☘️?

IMO Fran is a pretty solid coach. But it just seems like Michigan as an entity thinks they’re a much bigger deal than Fran.

Am I wrong?

Fran to scUM would put them right where we want them for years.

Middle of the B1G.

Edit: ok we would actually want them at the bottom.....but Fran is middle of the B1G pack material

All of this is valid ... But what happens when Michigan finds out they aren't ...

And the 3 realistic candidates are Pat Kelsey, Fran, and Wes Miller ...

Who would they take out of that list ?

I think I know who I would take ...

I'm actually taking Kelsey from those three. I'm not sold on Miller just yet.

Going into this season, this is effectively what Juwan accomplished. Having 34-36 game seasons means 20 wins is no longer special. But I agree with the sentiment they have earned the expectation to be one of the better B1G basketball teams.

John Beilien seems like the obvious choice, and the scariest as an Illinois fan, assuming he can "play ball" with NIL.

John is about to be 72 ... No way he is actually thinking about making a return ...

This account posted something similar on Twitter earlier this afternoon. You must talk to the same sources.
