No slight to him, but I like Jake Davis' long term upside more than Jason Jakstys'. That's the way to think about it I think.

He does appear to have a pretty good shot and fairly quick release. Also having his frame at 220lbs and 6'6" he has decent size. Sounds like a few guys are leaving and we need some guys to fill roles and can shoot.

IMHO - absolutely, he was a big part of their great start when they were leading the big ten and he was the driving force for Wisky getting to the big ten title game after the wheels fell off their season.

Did he force some shots when the team was struggling- yes- but in the right environment and team around him, a 20 year old sophomore who is already one of the best players in the big ten is someone you take every time

Well no. You only do it when they fit in with the culture you've established. Your comment is a lot like what we heard said about Skyy.

With where we are today as a program there are no automatics based on talent.

I don't see any reason Coleman would stay but I imagine if he did Jake Davis wouldn't be here

I agree. My point is players drafted 48th typically have limited to no NBA time. Pre NIL maybe you roll the dice. Post NIL when Illinois is likely to write you a large check, take the NIL, come back on a top 15 team and improve your game and improve your professional chances.

The way I always talk about it is - if the player's stock won't drop from another year and can only go up, why not cash in a nice fat check in a place where you are a local celebrity? We will pay more than a two way for Coleman.

Only counter arguments are draft class strength (this year's draft is badddddd) and injury possibility.

Because let’s say Coleman comes back and shoots worse because Marcus and Shannon are gone and now he’s not getting the good looks the attention they drew got him. Plus next years draft is a lot better.

The problem is that the bolded isn't really true.

Even someone like TSJ didn't improve his draft stock all that significantly, the league knew what he had, his selection is just rising because the draft class got worse.

The NBA doesn't care how successful or dominant you are in college basketball, they care about you demonstrating translatable skills. Coleman has done that this year. He might do that LESS if he were a more primary scoring option for us next year.

I wouldn't turn my nose up at him coming back by any means, don't get me wrong, he'd help us a ton. But he's going to go pro and that's the right decision for his future as a basketball player.

Kofi made a big mistake that was ultimately just a bummer of a situation for all parties. This is not that.

BU has proven so far that he can build a roster. Sometimes I think he thinks he’s elite at doing it and brings on guys that just don’t add up. For me I think Davis is one of these moments. I know he’s just a freshman but watch a full game of his. Warning he doesn’t start for Mercer so might have to wait before he enter’s. Personally I’m just not seeing it but apparently BU does and that’s the one that counts.

Re: Davis - If his shooting form is good and they think he could be a solid defender, seems like a good idea to add that kind of depth. Can never have enough shooters.

I believe his name was thrown out there by an insider a couple of weeks ago. I’m not sure why he’d want to leave his situation at Creighton but I also don’t really know anything.

We also recruited him out of high school fwiw

I think the only reason TSJ isn't projected as a lottery pick is the off the court issue. Otherwise that would have been a major improvement by 20 or more spots by what I've read or heard.
