Not even sure which direction you're implying. Nowhere near as bad or nowhere near as good?

Brad ain't going anywhere. Not his best year but no doubt in my mind he will be back-big offseason ahead.
I agree he’s not going anywhere. But, two of the last three years have been clunkers. If he follows this up with another one next year, the seat will be warm. And it should be, at that point.

How does a coach let a team shoot 8% (EIGHT?!) from three?? If we got cold today that would be one thing. We have been !!!! from beyond the arc for months. It feels like everyone in the world can see that besides Brad? I want to believe I am in the wrong but how can this continue?

Maybe but Underwood might look to jump if he’s not happy being forced to make staff changes and knows the pressure is increasing. That in not impossible to see happening

so indy says Brad and his agent actively looking for another job (texas) and Lville says brad aint going anywhere. looks like we got some conflicting info

Don't think KState will be in the market, but would've been nice to toss their hat in the ring
Well with any luck Kansas State coach could take another job if better one presented itself then that would put them in play. 😀

Underwood I think will get one more season after this one. But if he doesn’t get to a Sweet 16 next year, then Underwood will be fired. 10 years and 1 second weekend isn’t enough. Not with what IL pays him and pays the players
He had better be gone this year.

Isn’t the goal here to win a national title?
I want to hear from someone what they have seen to make them believe this “coach” is the guy who can do that.

The loss to Loyola should’ve made people question a few things. The nepotism hiring should have answered some of those questions. The staff and player departures of the last few years should have answered the rest. Hubris explains a lot.

We waited years too long to replace the two previous coaches. Let’s not make that mistake again.

I wouldn’t leave Texas Tech for Illinois if I was McCasland … That’s why he’s at 5 …
I get Tech has some oil money donors, but in what world would it be easier to make a Final Four at Texas Tech compared to Illinois?

One of the things I truly loved about Brad, is his willingness to change.

Below are a few examples:

OSU - scrapped the defense early in the season and turned things around

Illinois - Brad started of playing pressure style of defense like he did at SFA…realized that didn’t work and changed

Illinois - offensive change to booty ball last year!

Where has that coach been this season? The defense is horrible…no change. The team is not a good 3pt shooting team…let’s take 30 a game!

i find it funny that everyone is going after Tyler- nothing was said last year when we had a top 5 rated offense, or even this year when we were rolling and our ratings were top 10 in offensive efficiency. Look the offense is set up for pick and roll and our guards to read and kick to open shooters. That part is working. If you take an honest assessment we are getting wide open shots. Exactly what the offense is set up for. We just can’t make them. And yes, maybe the coaches missed on these portal guys, but all of them have shot a worse % from 3 than last year. I think a big mistake that Underwood made this year is scheduling so many top 15 caliber teams knowing that we are young and relying on so many freshman. The big ten is a tough conference, we don’t need all these non conference powerhouses.

Brad brought Illinois basketball back.
Brad has had horrible luck this year with the team’s health.
Brad has made some terrible coaching decisions over the past year.

I think the mood with fans would be much different right now if Brad owned some of those mistakes.

That’s where I am. I’m not on the fire brad train after one bad season…yet.

If I’m JW, I have an honest and private conversation about wHat brad thinks he’s a wrong. If he’s truly delusional about it and doesn’t think coaching staff is the main issue here, then yea let him go to Texas. If he’s willing to make changes, give him another year. That’s where I’m at. I get that we’ve underperformed in the tourney. But outside of that, every other metric I think brad has done well enough in to give at least some leash in this situation .

Probably in the minority here, but that’s where I am

Another clunker next year and seat would be a hell of a lot more than warm. In that scenario, his time as Illini HC will have come to an end.

Fact of the matter is this for me … I have more confidence in Josh to go find a better coach than I do in Brad to fix this 💩
I'm as big a BU fan as there is but thoughts like this have unfortunately been rattling around in my empty skull for a few weeks. I couldnt quite put it into words, thank you for boiling it down to a short easy to understand sentence.

We hear coaches (especially HFCBB) talk about demeanor a lot. I hate BU's new demeanor. I miss fiery BU on the sidelines. I hate BU sounding like Tim frickin Beckman in post games.

the only reason we're not screwed is that tough non con schedule, all the humiliation is just quad 1 losses. if any of them were quad 3 or 4 which this team is capable of losing to right now we would be screwed.

Yes … They are …

Brad was VERY actively pursuing that job until they hired Terry …
I think Brad and his agent actively looking for another job in mid February should say it all …
If Texas opens, what's their shortlist?

Whatever the likelihood might be: BU leaves for Texas and we get Chris Beard - we don't have to hold the burden of letting him go, he and his kid get to enjoy no state income tax, we get one of the better coaches in the game (sure upgrade IMO), and my fear of him heading to IU is covered? I think that works out fairly okay.

Now, of course, I'm saying this with little clue of whether Beard would turn down IU, UNC, or others (if offered) to come to Illinois .... I also don't know how Josh feels about Beard's situation ..... But point made. 🤷‍♀️

Agree. He deserves another year to get back on track. We will see a complete overhaul of the coaching staff, for sure. There is a lot of talent on the roster, even assuming we lose KJ and probably Riley. If we can retain Morez, DGL, Tomi, Boswell and add some pieces we will rebound quickly

Has Texas or anyone else offered him?

We are bad yes.
Brad also doesn’t need to own them publicly…he will own them privately
Bingo. Good coaches can have bad years. Lost 100% of our starter minutes and 99% of our season minutes. Built a team around shooting and everyone had career regressions. Good coaches can have bad years. Brad will address what needs to be addressed this off season
