“kansas is talking to someone but it isn’t Bill Self.”Brad has not spoken with any Texas people …
He’s focused on the team … He’s focused on Xavier … He’s focused on getting to San Antonio …
That’s from the man himself …

This was the joke that ultimately came in second when I was deciding whether to play the spreadsheet angle or leggings angle.Lululemon
I understand they have the Donovan history. But other than that, just weather wise or more NIL?Yes …
lol "vulgar scoundrels"."unusually low-rent in their behavior" - just a perfectly painted picture. Bravo. The few MD fans I've come across have shattered my perception of crab-cake eating croakies-wearing mid-atlantic bros - not that these types are particularly nice, but was not expecting vulgar scoundrels.
If no one is trying to take your coach, you've probably got the wrong guy.True, and don't we want it to be that way??
I think this just comes with the territory of having a top tier coach - if you want to play in this tier - compete for championships like Brad and JW say they do - you have to be able to take the heat that comes with it. I'd rather we have a coach that other teams are constantly trying to poach instead of having 100% assurance of continuity each year because nobody is interested in our guy.
(Along these lines, I think the exact reverse of this issue is the problem that some of us have with parts of our assistant staff this year. Obviously, OA and GA are guys that plenty of other programs would want, but I suspect that's the end of the list there for our assistants.)
Thing is I don’t think Whitman tries to match any offer Underwood gets from another school I think he’s tired of BU using that to try and get a raise and BU season this season isn’t worth him getting a raise. JmoAs would I … But this isn’t like Iowa or something … Have to take Texas seriously …
Texas could make him an offer a very, very attractive offer if they choose …
First year is rarely good for anyone rebuilding a program. (Look at Brad's first couple here...)Was curious how Coach Roger Powell, Jr was doing and saw that Valpo has not been great. Is he in over his head as a head coach? And could possibly be on way out in a year or two? Or is he dealing with extra adversity there?
This is very chest-puffy for a dude that just got a.....4 seed....Does Kevin Willard realize that he’s … Kevin Willard?
I don't have any extra insight but he inherited a team that went 11-21. Had a rough first season with just 7 wins. More than doubled that win count this year, his second year, with 15. That's also their highest win total since the 2019-2020 season. Looking at Kenpom, the year before he took over Valpo ended #292. His first season, they ended #300. This season, they ended #207.Was curious how Coach Roger Powell, Jr was doing and saw that Valpo has not been great. Is he in over his head as a head coach? Added one word that may be a very big one in this whole Golden thing. He'd have 2 COLLEGE choices. Wait to see if Mick jumps or Dana retires. If a guy is winning at a program and still wants out I'd do a lot of due diligence as to why. Oregon is obviously a different story if Altman decides to pack it in.
I had planned to ask you about Self to Texas. I read that he has been intrigued by the Texas job for a few years. Is it legitimately possible? It would be a Texas and CDC move to try.Texas opening update ...
CDC focused on 4 names ... Sean Miller, Will Wade, Brad Underwood, Bill Self (yes this is legit) ...
Ivey may get an interview but I think CDC is going to go the route of a proven college coach ...
Thanks. I didn't look at the advanced stats, only overall record. I appreciate the input and it sounds like maybe next year could be a break through year. Hopefully, because he is a very likable coach.I don't have any extra insight but he inherited a team that went 11-21. Had a rough first season with just 7 wins. I think it's probably way too early to say he's in over his head, in fact this season seems like an encouraging step in the right direction.
I think there has got to be some level of ego that would stop Self from going to Texas. Going from Kansas to Texas is a clear step down. Sure you could say, but they paid me so much money (which I'm sure they would), but how much money does Self need? Is a little more, that I'm never going to get around to spending, worth that ego hit?I had planned to ask you about Self to Texas. I read that he has been intrigued by the Texas job for a few years. Thanks for the information. Hopefully they continue to build off of how the season ended for next year.First year is rarely good for anyone rebuilding a program. (Look at Brad's first couple here...)
The good news for Roger is they got better as the season went along and made minor bit of history in the MVC tournament. They were the first 11 seed to ever make the MVC Semi-Final, where they lost a very close game to Bradley. Regardless of the totals, 15 wins was the programs high water mark since 2019-2020. They didn't set the world on fire, but I have to assume they are relatively happy with how things went in year one. There was certainly a lot of buzz about how the season ended. (Winning 3 games in the tournament)
Gonna be ever harder when he produces talent like All Wright that gets called up to the big leagues.I don't have any extra insight but he inherited a team that went 11-21. What random high school in Illinois needs a new head coach?
True.Gonna be ever harder when he produces talent like All Wright that gets called up to the big leagues.
Those mid-major coaches have a hard row to hoe..
