Man some of these takes on here…hahaha

Reminder: After Monday using regular NIL to recruit players will be more difficult. Illinois’s budget will shrink which is why the lack of action is concerning. Illinois will be fine but the chances of reeling in a big fish after Monday goes down

That's weird, what I read suggested the opposite (Edit: just looked this up again and can't find what I was reading earlier)

ABA league co-exists alongside other scaled down leagues in Bosnia & Herzogovina

He played 25 minutes per game in both leagues so its not like he rode the pine in ABA and then was sent to this other league and played more

He played like 3 games in an U19 league, maybe that's what you're thinking of?

Anyway shooting percentages are volatile and the rest of his stats were similar otherwise, not sure we can glean much from it anyway
Naw the ABA is pretty good (though still a step below high-major NCAA basketball). Probably at the low end of top 10-ten leagues worldwide. The Montenegro Erste league is probably on the low end of European leagues.

Hmmm…that sounds ominous and makes my head spin.
Good:
Fundamentally sound players available that aren’t awestruck by Blue Blood schools?

Bad:
A.) Brad and staff losing credibility on being able to coach effectively?
B.) Brad gaining a reputation for being inflexible and petty with those who speak out against Tyler and Hamer’s strategy and tactics?
C.) We actually don’t have very much money for NIL relative to our peers this year and foreign players are more economical?
D.) Foreign players don’t have the same visceral disgust reflex when seeing their coaches wear leggings?
C is where the issue lies, IMO.

Our NIL budget was overstated. These "locks" evaporated when other schools get involved.

We get what we pay for.

That's really good, yet young and inexperienced talent. We deal with the growing pains, but don't reap the rewards of the development.

Doubt it.

Johnson will be a double double machine wherever he goes. I think Illinois will (and has already) realize they severely underestimated his value in portal (and importance to the program).

Not a good look whatsoever to have a homestate guy locked for 3+ years then lose him a year in. No matter what spin anyone wants to put on it . You pay to keep it. But I guess 18-19 year old 6'9 255+ guys grow on trees.

The biggest transfer loss in program history IMO. And just sad it has to come to that. Wish guy the best. He's going to be a monster wherever his college career takes him.

Ah ok yeah I definitely read that wrong!

I was looking into that U19 tournament though where he averaged 23 & 14 with 4 blocks and seems there's been a lot of NBA players go through that league/tourney over the years

Probably just a kid they're kicking the tires on anyhow

For all the insane freaking out about BU being unable to recruit players, consider this, with emphasis on the last sentence:

“…and play under head coach Brad Underwood, who has developed several NBA players with a similar skill set.”

This is not Loren Tate or Brad Sturdy or Derek Piper saying this. This is not the News-Gazette. This is the national reputation that BU has earned. Ayo and TSJ, now KJ and Will. Soon Tomi will be there. The national media has taken notice and, no doubt, the athletes have as well. There are many obviou$ reasons why players choose other programs, but it’s not because Brad is a bumbling buffoon who athletes don’t want to play for.

Explain, please.
