I was literally about to post this same thing.... to be fair I guess he did say SUPER athletic. Now we can debate for several pages on the difference between being athletic and SUPER athleticTy isn't athletic????
Yes. They will give him the "chance" to start but will add two more regardless. Would be a really nice get though. So if today's Zoom with Malik Moore goes well and he commits, that secures our bench shooter spot, right? Sarr would be the next most logical player to commit, which would probably lock up the wing starter. Would that leave this mystery SG that *might* enter the portal, then Illinois is good to go?
Um...have you noticed that Underwood changes his emphasis and style based on personnel? He likes the high scoring offense, but in certain years he had his team playing hounding defense and limiting the other team's shots. With BU's all gas and no breaks jack if up style there is no room for defensive stoppers or minded assistant. That's why we have Hamer as well. It's a joke along with his no offense offense style.
Signore Sarr, your table is readyLooking at this, those two shouldn't be dropping to many passing with hands like that. We are going to be a big team.. Maybe Brad is going for the tallest line up again.. Maybe.. just maybe.. We can come up with a defense plan that uses the strength of this team on D, which will be its height.

It’s a good question. For me athleticism is about speed and leaping ability. Having that quick twitch ability where a guy can really get up, come down, and go right back up. Ty definitely has that in his game. One of the reasons I was happy about his return. Can I ask, honestly, how we quantify athleticism? There's a lot of discussion of who is more athletic than whom and team athleticism, but what does that even mean?
How many centibirds of athleticism were TSJ? Jakucionis? Dee Brown?
How many birds of athleticism did our team last year have? What about Houston? Duke?
Not gonna lie, I’ve never heard of “damask”, so when I read your post and saw you spell Domask wrong, then I recognized your name as a “regular” poster spelling it wrong, I was surprised! Then I realized what you were doing and I googled the term. Haha. Well done.
Ala Deon Thomas.A lot more examples of him handling the ball in this, and it kind of looks like he’s got a one-foot turnaround jumper that he likes to go to a lot.
Is Tajh Ariza related to Trevor?Looking at this, those two shouldn't be dropping to many passing with hands like that. We are going to be a big team.. Maybe Brad is going for the tallest line up again.. Maybe.. just maybe.. We can come up with a defense plan that uses the strength of this team on D, which will be its height.

Unless he's managed to improve his skill level more drastically than any player I've ever seen, Ty's playability is very limited and situational. We need a lot more athleticism in what will project as our starting lineup.Ty isn't athletic????
I tend to answer ambiguity with absurdity. It's a coping mechanism.Hence the regular “more athletic than Larry Bird” comments…
BTW, I have a sinking feeling that the Illini will NOT sign Dame Sarr, and that Will Riley will NOT return next season. I truly HOPE that I am WRONG on both counts! But that feeling is probably why I'm urging/pushing/wanting other Illini moves to be made soon/now in the transfer portal. Somehow adding Malachi Smith, Xaivian Lee, Kennard Davis, and LeJuan Watts would allow me to forget all about "missing" on Sarr and Riley.

I don't see the Illinois offense as necessarily plodding next year. I don't think that's Brad's historical m.o. or desire. But with the players we have that are looking at significant roles, I also don't think you're trying to run up and down the floor with these guys either. Big Z aside, I don't think we'd want Tomi or Mirk expending too much energy getting into footraces. So I don't see us say having a gameplan of looking to hoist shots in the final 5 seconds of the shot clock next year, but I could see us taking more time getting the ball up the court and setting up the offense.Transition, perhaps, but I don't think we will become a plodding Tony Bennett style offense any time soon. Having skilled big guys means the ball should be flying around. We didn't excel in transition this year, but our offense was pretty far from slow. We were number 16 in possessions per game. Of Power 5 schools, only Alabama and UCF had more.
Where is neck length on this chart?Mirkovic weighed in at 255 apparently
Also, Sarr's standing reach! (and apparently he's 6'7" now?)
Edit: oops didn't see that @New Creation beat me to it!
I need a 95% confidence interval on those measurements, too. Due on my desk EOD. Thanks in advance.
I wonder how much the mental part plays in this discussion? Watching the championship game it seemed many of the defenders ( particularly when screened) ended up in the right spot with little effort. Is this because they are better prepared, understanding what is happening and adjusting early? Or is it an innate ability to “see the floor”? Are they quicker and faster or smarter? Can we keep a guy with the ball from going around us to the basket without fouling him? That's where it starts for me. Is a guy observably stronger, quicker, more active than our opponents?
You are moving the goalpost. The only thing being questioned was his athleticism (of which he has plenty).Unless he's managed to improve his skill level more drastically than any player I've ever seen, Ty's playability is very limited and situational. We need a lot more athleticism in what will project as our starting lineup.
He is, as I said in other posts. One of the better athletes we have, no doubt. But Houston, Auburn, Duke, and FL all had at least 3-4 players more athletic than Ty. I'm just saying we have to go get more of it, because we were sorely missing it this year and have not significantly improved it. Not all that controversial, albeit critical. Which I know is a no, no for some.Ty isn't athletic????
We cannot afford to be all that picky about where we find the talent. We just need to fill our roster with quality players that will have us competing for conference championships and deep tourney runs, whether it's from the transfer portal, high school or the international pool. Unltil we start getting our top targets on a regular basis this is what we will have to do to compete. So, I wonder if Brad and staff are pretty much over recruiting Chicago and American high school kids. Also the type of players that Illinois has on its team looks more like Iowa and Wisconsin vs say a Florida, Alabama, Baylor, Tennessee or any other athletic team in college basketball.
Not sure how I feel, as a fan, that our team has become a European club team.
Brad better when and win big this next year, I am sure the Chicago are donors are starting to get concerned with that Illinois basketball is changing and moving away from the type of players that the 89, 01, 05, and 21, 24 teams were built up from.
I’m all about skill positions, but skill without athleticism in the top ranks of college basketball and your ceiling is Gonzaga, which has come close to winning it all, but I believe one of the only reason they had good tournament runs is because of their past seedlings, which they earned by playing in the WCC.
Our Illini won’t be as lucky, these kind of rosters put together 5-7 seed line type teams at best and then we hope for match ups…
Rather be wrong and this switch in recruiting brings us a national championship, but just don’t see it. The 4 1 seeds this year were athletic and skilled. Cant just have one, and recruiting Europe will make us a big, slow and soft team, but they will be elite practice and warm up shooters.
Well there’s an athletic fella![]()
