I was actually embarrassed from my own reaction at Cliffmas, as an adult. So, I have not been that emotionally vested since. Now, we lose a recruit, Brad has taught me to simply ask, "Who's next?"
Cliffmas was the first time I dropped an f-bomb in front of my parents (I was in grad school at the time).

This whole scene is our recruitment with Andrej, but starting to feel like this

Didn’t know the previous UNC connection. That does add to the intrigue.

With UNC adding a transfer wing you would think they don’t feel confident.
The wing add for UNC is purely a depth piece. Has nothing to do w Andrej. The kid had announced he was transferring to VTech to High Point and UNC got him to flip for not a ton of money. Purely a depth piece in case their two incoming freshmen guards are ready to play at all.

Well, clearly time to start thinking plan B. This portal stuff is hard.

Their $ offer was already lower than Illinois, so it at least impacts that

True, but how does someone usually play the they offered me more game. Maybe someone offers 200-500k more and he says that's what I was looking for and goes with them.

It would truly be hilarious in the most depressing way if all the "he doesn't care about money" people were right and he ended up going to UNC for less money.

I was one of those people and I was apparently wrong. What makes sense to me is that UNC is likely telling him “wait until next week and we will have the money” as they go back to their collective and raise the extra needed to match.

It 100% impacts Andrej. Less money in their NIL pool. Doesn’t mean he won’t go there. Can North Carolina round up enough dough to better Illinois’s offer?

I really think it’s that cut and dry.

UNC obviously is a big brand, but they literally just had two recruits right at or ahead of KJ & Riley in the rankings and neither are going to the NBA. Also, just don’t get the fit with their roster pieces, especially after they just got another SG today.

I’ve been wrong before, so who knows 🤷‍♂️

On another note, would LOVE to see these things behind the scenes. I mean, holy !!!!. Is the agent misdirecting people or is Andrej’s camp…?

I did the Belushi chug freshman year in the 6-pack. Even kept it down for 15-20 minutes after. Would not recommend. To the 2 Illinettes that assisted in the clean-up. Sorry again.

I’m filing this one away for my son when he goes to college as an example of what not to do when in the company of members of your college’s dance team. :ROFLMAO:

It's an uneasy feeling because all of these Illinois transfer portal targets seem fully dependent on price. Transfer portal is here to stay, so need to look at the other side: How can the program create more player attachment to the program where it's not a yearly auction for player services?

There's not a magic elixir for everyone, but getting 4-5 guys annually that you know are willing to stick around because of buy-in to the staff, program, etc. could really throttle down the risk of having to re-recruit an entire roster and hope it gels.

Could not agree more. But that is where we need a strong recruiting and player development staff of Asst Coaches across the board, but that is exactly what we lack.

So true. I have seen some criticism of Illinois for not having recruits in on visits and I guess why do people care? The amount after the dollar sign is all the (top)players are looking at. The school, tradition, coach, education, facilities...does any of it even matter?
Emphatically no. I’ve been on the “We are witnessing the slow death” of college sports for a long time now. Once the players no longer care for the institution they play for, how long until the fans no longer care?

10 pages of recruiting thread without any announcements or booms today. The answer to your question is: not anytime soon.

Kids that don't go play professionally will be selling widgets for some Silicon Valley startup shortly after college is over. Most kids planning on some level of professional career aren't going to care about who had the better business or CS school. Everything they learn will be lost or outdated in 10+ years when they actually join the workforce.

Maybe the alumni network would be able to help, but you're still starting entry level or as an intern.
