I remember this story, but someone remind me who the recruit was again? LolVisits do happen this time of year, but for the love of god, if he comes to town, can we get John something better to eat than McDonalds?

Once Caleb Foster enters the transfer portal, this may change.
I believe Duke has the top ranked class coming in next year if I am not mistaken. On Blackwell, on the one hand I certainly understand the prestige of the brand and the likely deeper pockets. But Duke doesn’t really bring in transfers to be the guy. They are still very much of the bringing in and featuring one n done 5 star talent and portaling for veteran role players as needed. Think Grandison, Mason Gillis, Scion James, those types of players. They don’t really have a history of taking a transfer and elevating his game.
Now Duke may be pivoting this year because the incoming frosh class isn’t nearly as strong as it’s been in recent years. Looking at their incoming class, I don’t see a Flagg, a Boozer or a Knueppel, so maybe this is Scheyer acknowledging and pivoting to a more portal focused roster. But that feels like more of a gamble from Blackwell’s perspective because there’s no proof of concept. In fact, when Scheyer hasn’t had a transcendent, NPOY/top 3 lotto type talent, he’s merely done okay, finishing top 3ish in a very diluted ACC and getting 4 an 5 seeds in the tourney.
So long as the money is comparable I just think we have a better sell. Better conference, track record of success with transfers, track record of putting guards in the league. Plus we have a sentimental angle in that we are his old man’s alma mater.
All that said, would gladly take Blackwell but I hope we don’t overpay for him. We’ve seen time and time again the splashiest portal gets don’t always pan out (see Storr, AJ) and sometimes under the radar guys explode (who had Nick Boyd being the first badger since Michael Finley to average 20 ppg?). It’s as much about fit, culture and buying into a role as it is about overall talent. We need a lead guard and Blackwell is clearly the best of the bunch, but there are plenty of other big scoring guards who are or will be available. The staff has a really good track record of identifying fits with our roster and I trust them to find the right guy, even if it’s not Blackwell.
I know a bit naive to not know already but anyone know how I can contribute to the NIL fund? I don’t have big pockets but would like to say I’ve done my part. I love Illinois athletics and just want the best for it.
Also are these donations considered tax deductible, the same way if I just gave to the university generally?

You forget they have to actually write a paper about “with that being said” so they get a grade for their made up classes this semester.I’m starting to think our team is busy watching the Masters and has forgotten to enter the portal paperwork
Maybe it’s just me
They do, but this class is typically regarded as not nearly as strong as recent classes. I believe that is why Duke seems to be making an effort to go after the highest rated guys in the portal, they seem to be building their team around portal additions and using the freshmen class to complement.I believe Duke has the top ranked class coming in next year if I am not mistaken.
I have OSU fans who say that they can do better. I do not agree, but they feel he is on the hot seat. This is really weird to me. Why would Diebler be on the hot seat. Went 8-3 when he took over from Holtman, then 17-15 in his first year, & 21-13 with tough loss in the tourney in his 2nd year. Not only that, he's a good coach. I'm not a Buckeye fan in the slightest, but I just don't see how he's on the hot seat.
If Michigan picks up Bidunga and Juke. Adds their stellar recruiting class. Returns Cadeau, McKenney, and Morez. GGs. I don't think they're a shoo-in for the 'ship. But they'll be heavy B1G favorites, i.e securing a 1 seed.
Sarr was very inconsistent on the offensive side of the ball. Thats why he went to coming off the bench. Trying to do too much when you had Boozer on the floor. He eventually got back in the starting lineup because of his defense but it was obvious he had been told not to force shots anymore or he would sit back down. He's not half the player Wagler is.Illinois was in on Sarr before he choose Duke. If Blackwell does commit to Duke, any chance the Illini can secure Sarr? Sarr has to be impressed by what our staff did with Wagler this year.
Why did he even leave the first time

it depends on which type of I-Fund contribution it is, and the link you shared appears to be a seat donation — which is NOT tax deductible.
Here's the breakdown:
I-Fund Seat Donations are annual, non-deductible gifts used to maintain, add, or purchase new season tickets for Illini football or men's basketball. Illini Excellence gifts, on the other hand, are tax deductible.
So the distinction is:
- Seat donation → Not tax deductible
- Illini Excellence gift (a contribution above and beyond the required seat donation, which boosts your priority ranking) → Tax deductible
Worth confirming directly with the I-Fund office if you're unsure which category your specific contribution falls into, since the tax treatment is meaningfully different.
- - -
Also worth noting doesn't make sense to itemize deductions including donations (like Illini Excellence) if your deductions don't exceed the Standard Deduction.
For the 2026 tax year (taxes filed in 2027), the IRS has increased the standard deduction to $16,100 for single filers and married individuals filing separately, $32,200 for married couples filing jointly, and $24,150 for heads of household. These inflation-adjusted amounts represent an increase from the 2025 limits.
2026 Standard Deduction Amounts
- Single: $16,100
- Married Filing Jointly: $32,200
- Head of Household: $24,150
- Married Filing Separately: $16,100

Duke is always a major factor, but think the tide is going towards Illinois on this one. Not done, but that's where the direction is going.Once Caleb Foster enters the transfer portal, this may change.
Whatever you do, don't check Blackwells other recent follows.Insiders believe Caleb is out the door via the portal and Cayden will start at PG. They're trying to key in on a scoring guard to feature.
FWIW, Blackwell just started following Flory Bidunga on Instagram today. Guess who has a visit scheduled to Duke for Sunday?
Yeah...OSU fans are not the most rational people. They have a very inflated view of their program (I live among them.)I have OSU fans who say that they can do better. I do not agree, but they feel he is on the hot seat.
We'll see. Could very well happen, as these portal additions always seem to be fluid. A lot of behind the scenes action occurring, as usual.Duke is always a major factor, but think the tide is going towards Illinois on this one. Not done, but that's where the direction is going.
Yes… but to be fair, he had an equally good time during his recent visit to Ann Arbor.Blackwell had far too good of a time at his recent UI campus visit imho
Well, there's that. Crazy expectations for these coaches.Their bitter rival to the north just showed you don't really need time to build a program.
In this world, following other players might well be a "hey what are they paying you?"Whatever you do, don't check Blackwells other recent follows.
So basically about the same advantage as winning the opening tip.
