No way around it, this sucks. Add at least 4 to 6 weeks after his return to a game that our team will be up to form assuming no other injuries. Normally that wouldn't be as big of a deal but getting that number 1 seed and an easier shot at a tournament run was pretty reliant on us doing some damage in the non- conference. Facing all that talent early on with 2 healthy up to spead front court guys and it could ugly fast. If that happens your going to need michigan like dominance in conference games to get back to the 1 line.

I looked at games missed by players who average 10+ mpg for every team in the B1G dating back to the 2020 - 2021 season.

We've faired pretty well.

This isn't a perfect science. For example, I know that TSJ or Skyy Clark's missed games weren't due to injury. But I don't have that same knowledge for every team so I just counted games missed indiscriminately. Likewise, I know that Ty missed all of last season with an injury but I didn't include him in our games missed because he didn't fit the criteria of averaging 10 mpg and, I didn't want to go through the exercise of figuring out all the players on other teams who would've played 10 mpg but didn't because of an off season injury.

Here are the results in order of most games missed. (Do they have healthcare in the PNW?)

Washington - 326
Oregon - 310
USC - 262
Nebraska - 259
OSU - 246
IU - 206
Minnesota - 197
Rutgers - 178
UCLA - 169
-------MEDIAN------
Northwestern - 164
Michigan- 161
PSU - 152
Illinois - 140
Iowa - 126
Maryland - 89
MSU - 84
Purdue - 76
Wisconsin- 60
this is great info.. can do the same with high impact players (20 or 25 mpg) as well. I'm not looking for confirmation bias just curious. I also thought we may be slightly over bitten by injury bug (or false allegation bug 🤮) but knew that everyone has injuries

I've hit my alotted Loyalty research limit for the day. But it would be interesting to see that breakdown.

For the record, I also expected us to be a little closer to the top when I started looking into it. I was mostly surprised though at the extremes on both ends. What is Wisconsin and Purdue putting in their water? And are Washington and Oregon practicing on a minefield?

this is about the most Illinois basketball thing I’ve ever felt. Finally this is our year!! And boom best player gone for most of the season. When we finally win a championship in 2055 it’s gonna be a great story of all the heartache we’ve endured over the years.
If it happens in 2055, I'll have to live to be 100 years old. Maybe I can do it.

Unless something goes wrong, he will be back on the court starting basketball activities in October.
If he were on the Cubs I could count on him missing the season.

Of course it's terrible, but big picture we're looking at March/April as when we need all hands on deck and hope to make a run at a championship. If we drop a couple seeds we'll still be very dangerous with Mirk back. Ideal? Far from it, and missing a difference maker just isn't fun. But there is a possible silver lining with development and other guys getting minutes with him coming back sometime during the non-conference. Just hope he has a full recovery.
I love your positivity here, but with the schedule that Brad put together, an 0-fer in those games would do a TON of damage. WITH Mirk most of those games are 50/50 with Duke being 35/65.

The silver lining for people getting more PT is true. That will help, but if go game by game now, depending on when he comes back..... we're looking at a double digit loss season. Again, the preconference is BRUTAL.

Let's hope it's November

We have to remember. Being a Balkan means cutting the recovery time in half. So, he'll be back September 1st(ish).

Talking to a trainer (my personal trainer for what it is worth), even though he may start playing in November, the rule of thumb is for every week you are out injured add those total weeks to the time you start playing again before your at that the playing level before the injury...Out 3 months because of injury..Figure 6 months before Mirk is at playing at the level pre-injury..So we're talking probably February 2027 before he realistically is at 100%

I would like to see a comparison of 9th men injuries. I’ve learned from the board that is a very crucial roster spot.

65/35 would be like -200 line

The #2 team facing #3-5 team would be closer to -120ish (or in your terms, 53/47ish)

EDIT: edited from #1 to #2... Florida is #1

For the next 6-8 weeks he will be in a boot then it will come off...and he can start low impact. Staff will ease him back in and we will see how his conditioning is at that point.

The game I am circling is the UConn game December 4th.

given the way the scheduling shakes out - this game target makes a ton of sense to me

Ha. Let’s put the ncaa’s ā€œwe take into account injuriesā€ criteria to the test. In theory, they shouldn’t hold those losses against us if we do indeed lose

For what it’s worth, I’ve always hated this quirk in seeding by the NCAA- even if it could benefit us here

Do you hate it because it provides another opportunity for bias? Or something else?

Sleepers guys say they’ve gotten similar intel to Goodman’s report of 6-8 weeks.
6-8 weeks is a positive outcome IMO given the far darker possibilities. That brings us to early October-ish to start easing back into things. No need to rush but maybe he can play a few minutes in the exhibition games or first couple real games before Texas Tech on the 10th. Ideally he can get some run before that game & be in good game shape by Duke & UConn.

Brad is the head coach of a professional basketball team. Does he know that? Would an NBA owner tolerate the number of injuries we have seen just in practices?
I guess he better give our players' bones and ligaments a good talking-to so that they know they aren't supposed to break or stretch too much.
