Cardinals continue racking up series win's with a 10-8 series finale this afternoon.........Hjerpe with a fantastic debut with 4 perfect innings and 6 K's..........gonna be a quick rap up on this game and onto S.F. ..............

Cardinals drop to 4th place in the Division , 1/2 GB the Pirates and only 2 Games out of LAST PLACE......

Pallante should have 16-17 wins now. Leaves with a big lead several times and the bullpen blows it.

I get wanting to see your team win games, but wouldn't it be better to lose them all and juice the draft lottery odds? If we can move down two spots that increases our odds of a top 6 pick from 10% to 15%. On the other hand, by winning a bunch of games we could see that fall to around 6%. I think I'd rather see us get a better draft pick at this point than win a handful of meaningless games.

Can't disagree with that. No real glory at 81-81 other than some level of self satisfaction. The better the draft position the better at this point.

I think this is the way. This season provided some fun for us fans with hope for the future. The bullpen was already not great this year and are completely gassed now. I thought Svanson would've been better this year and hoping he would be one of the ones moving forward. I still like his stuff. So set backs like that in my eyes hurt, so to your point, let's increase those assets and keep building.

We obviously don't know the interest what the interest for a guy like Riley O'Brien was at the deadline, but Im assuming they missed on not moving him.

Bull pen is doing its best to make your wish come true.

6-7 SF blown save
4-5 SF blown save
2-3 Dodgers walkoff

Liberatore is also doing a good job. 6 straight losses where he gave up 27 runs

If we had an average bullpen and a league average pitcher to replace Liberatore we would still be barely fighting for the 3rd wild card spot

I hope Liberatore $2.3M and Gorman $2.7M are gone this off season. Their arb will take them to $4m. Two highest paid players on team with negative WAR

That pay is so minimal by league standards though. Unless the front office plans to spend big time this offseason, which I very much doubt, we are not contending in 2027. If there is a season, it makes sense to keep them in there and hope things click, and then try and get something for them. Is it likely they'll have a good enough season to provide some real trade value? Probably not. But at the same time a lot of us were also ready to pull the cord on Walker prior to this season.

and Bernal is no slouch. with him and Rainiel, Herrera could be worth a lot in trade bait.
maybe a top flite starter? or a corner outfielder with a big bat. i definitely think we are set
at catcher. We've also get another Baez (no relation)at AA who's hit 38 homers this year.
he could be our future 3B.

The pitch selections are coming from the bench. pitchers are shaking off the pitching coach.

Bernal has looked impressive , no doubt .......these last few games has shown a young roster loaded with potential but short on experience...........the BP has been a rotation of waiver pickups , minor leaguers and others lacking in the skills needed to protect leads and closing out victories.......there have been the random games of success but the overriding mindset is what has happened lately with numerous 4-5-6 run leads having been lost by this BP .......

The Cardinals are struggling to finish out the season and it looks doubtful they will finish with a .500 record......at the pace of play now it is not out of the realm of finishing in last place in our division......a far cry from earlier in the season with discussion of a WC playoff finish......

the farm clubs have been revitalized with a # 2 ranking in all of MLB by some pundits........it's time to castoff some of the marginal MLB players and give this NEW farm club system their chance at some " runway " and strengthen what is lacking at the major league level..........

The relief corps must be upghraded. However, the issue in my view begins and ends with the starters. If that part of the staff is upgraded then there is less dependence on the part of the staff which has been a problem. The point I made on another site is that the Cardinals need to qet more innings out of their starters. Someone quickly informed me that Cardinal starters average 5.2 innings and league average is 5.1. As far as I am concerned "just average" is not good enough for a Cardinal starting staff. This is a team which is now under .500 for the season and sits 19 games out of first place in the Central division. Pitching is still the great determinant of championship success.

I agree that starting pitching needs to get better, but this bullpen is really bad. You are right that we are about middle of the pack in SP longevity. Per fangraphs wer are 15th in innings pitched by SP, 12th in innings pitched by RP. But interestingly enough, teams who have used their bullpens more (and starters less) include the White Sox (1st in RP innings), Padres (3rd), Astros (8th), Rays (10th), and Brewers (11th). That's 4 of the 6 current division leaders and another playoff team who have all gotten fewer innings out of their starters than us.

The bigger problem is quality. Both in the rotation and bullpen. But if we're comparing them, the bullpen is clearly worse right now.

Starting pitching is 11.2 fWAR on the season, ranking 12th in the league. Bullpen is 0.5 fWAR on the season, ranking 26th.

So yes, clearly we want more innings out of our starters, but not necessarily because more SP innings is in itself a recipie for success, but because our specific bullpen is awful and we want to keep our relievers off the mound as much as possible. If we had, say Milwaukee's bullpen (3rd in fWAR) then I think we'd be fine turning it over to them after an average of 5 innings.

Cardinals take the opener of a 3 game series against the White Sox by a score of 7-3........the 3 B's , Burleson , Baez and Bernal each getting 2 RBI's........Baez and Bernal both go 3-4 ........the future looks bright with those 2 players......

Liberatore with another sub par start , but the BP went 4 2/3 IP only giving up 1 R .....

LET'S GO CARDINALS !!!!!!!!!
