I'm getting to the point where I'm more confident in converting a 3rd and 12 vs a 3rd and 2. Our play calling in short yardage situations is the most predictable I've ever seen.

The Beloved made a great effort today. And Ohio State does not Walk on Water... yet, anyway.
BUT when you play Ohio State you have to realize that you’re playing an NFL franchise. Seriously. Ohio State fields almost an entire front line of NFL-caliber players every season. Every season’s NFL draft proves this. That’s what happens when your institution has an embedded culture of scooping up a steady stream of ‘Fives’ all the time. Decade after decade.
There’s only a handful of teams that can field players of an equal or sometimes greater nature than Ohio State. That’s why even with NIL in place it’s still the same old names at top all the time – with the recent exception and inclusion of Indiana.
There has been and remains a Caste System in major College Athletics. Maybe eight truly elite and dominant programs. And then, everybody else.
And there is nothing that seems on the horizon to change this in any major way if at all.
Maybe get on the sideline, Hauck?
They wouldn't have. They lost a first round WR and several other NFL players. I'm still withholding judgement on this defense as they've started to clean some things up. Still need to see a lot more.

I kinda know what we're going to do on most first downs. And when we line 3 FB/TE types in the backfield. That said, I think Lunney is a really good offensive coordinator. Except for one missed throw to a wide-open receiver and a couple key dropped passes, the Illini offense might have hung 30 on the Buckeyes.
Why is it "unacceptable?" Are you saying that Cameron Thomas was dogging it? I would like to see you beat Ian Moore to the outside an tackle Sayin in one step. we missed the opportunity to cover Sayin up, but it wasn't due to lack of effort.
That's not how I read it. Just unacceptable not to get him on the ground in that situation. Thomas had him buy at that point everybody should be right there with him to get him if he slips out.
It was a good play until the finish but I'm sure there aren't going to be too many of those misses for Thomas. I would have him starting before the year is out.

Yes, but Thomas was never in position to make the tackle - that was my point. We had three players in the backfield, but Ohio kept blocking after the play broke down. That is why Sayin was able to run through our rush.
He didn't miss. Go back and watch the play, his feet were never in position to make the tackle. Which is why he reached for the shoulder pads. It wasn't for Thomas to make the play (he was chasing from an outside block). It was up to Barna and Barnett to help clean up. Go back and look - neither of them were able to get close enough to Sayin to put a hand on him. There was no failure. Ohio State did exactly what all talented offensive lineman do, when your man beats you, you turn toward the quarterback and block the next free defender. Watch the play again - Barna and Barnett got into the backfield, but they never got close to Sayin.
While I agree with you - I will say it again - the poorest coaching job in Duke game was Bret. And Bret has a personal spotter in the press box. If we have 9 players on the field, we call time out. And that particular play is on the head coach, not the defensive coordinator.
Don't think there are a lot of teams that are gonna rack up 462 yards against them, especially at their place
I basically said that everybody should be there to help him clean up. I disagree that he wasn't in position. It happens, but I don't think that will be the case furthermore.

Never said it was a lack of effort, great effort to get there, but that’s the gig. He got to the qb and didn’t finish. I’d be hard pressed to think Cam would say otherwise. And then we had another one on the same play over play it and whiffed on a one arm wrap up. Unacceptable.
