Illinois Hoops Recruiting Thread (October 2017)

At this stage in a recruitment, it's inconceivable that BU would: (a) allow a player or a player's family to dictate another highly recruited player's commitment; and (b) have not known about the feelings involved prior to this point. Plus, in the end, the players make the decision and all...

It's an interesting question. Until this summer, Griffin hasn't had the chance to develop as a perimeter player where he'll play in college. From what I've seen, THT is a more explosive player, not afraid to drive and he's more athletic. They both have great potential. For BU's system, I'd go...

Good point. We still have about 6 more hours of "drama" left. If you graphed expectations they would have a steady decline with a gigantic spike up on the last couple of days. The 2017 recruiting year will be remembered for a long time.

Based on the expectations surrounding BU, fans see BIG championships before 5 years. Five year predictions don't have a lot of value, but I expect us to be competitive with any team in the BIG in that 3-5 year period.

Agree, but he also needs a break-out year. The spring recruiting should be interesting. We'll have a lot better feeling for where the real needs exist.

I agree we've been able to compete for selected top 50 recruits like Ayo, Tilmon, Black, JCL. In the future, though, I'm hoping our program will have more national recognition and some of the recruiting barriers that have existed for the last decade will disappear, giving us better access to...

I don't know if we'll have a great shot, but we should at least have a shot, which is better than we've had for a long time. Playing time will be a big factor as we go against the elites. Who knows? Maybe in two years we'll be in a position to compete for top 50 recruits nationally.

Of all the players we recruited this year, THT has been the hardest to read. One thing I noticed: there was more focus on this board about rumors than about the consistent recruitment focus of our staff--they never backed off. In part, what sowed seeds of doubt was THT's apparent lack of...

I'm optimistic about THT and believe we have as good or better chance than Iowa State or Xavier. IIRC, one of our coaches was present for all of his games this summer. He made both an UV and OV. He loved campus life. The OV went great. More fans turned out for him than at any other school. He...

World University Rankings Remember, these are international rankings that focus solely on academic factors within research universities. The rankings should not be compared to popular US rankings that take into account other nonacademic factors from $$ to dorm life.

    Rutgers 35, Illinois 24 POSTGAME

Over the course of the season, the hope is to see improvement. We have seen steps forward, followed by steps backward. It's virtually impossible to know or even guess what trajectory we are on. Several freshmen are gaining valuable experience. Of course, that could be said about any freshman...

The academic rankings aren't even close. According to the World University Rankings, the UI is 36th, Wake Forest is 294th. The UI ranks 16th in the world in engineering, 18th in computer science, 21st in physical sciences, 24th in the world in Nobel Prize winners and is #1 in the BIG in all 4...

When it comes to Valtonen, forget location. What makes more of a difference is educational status and the UIUC is recognized as a world-class university, ranked 36th in The World University Rankings (ASU is ranked 131). That might be an important factor to Valtonen's parents, and a point that...
