I think they need to sprinkle in the recycled rubber material that softens the turf. That should darken the orange we see now.

Yep. I doubt that was a coordinated effort, probably just a fleeting glimpse at the new block I. Since the helmet is blue they probably just weren't meticulous and got rid of the standard blue outline. You can forgive this during the "transition" period for DIA and the various Illini sports...

The monochrome Block I is among the "Nike-approved" Block I designs, but note that the "curve" doesn't appear - the outline is simply made to be the same color as the "inner-I" so it has right-angle corners.
