2/10 Games

scUM has five losses and still has to play *at* tOSU, Wisky and Iowa, and host us, Sparty and Rutgers. They don't have a single gimme left on their schedule. Nothing I've seen from them makes me think they'll run the table.

I think Wisconsin has the easiest schedule down the stretch: at Indiana, Minnesota and Rutgers, home against Rutgers, Michigan, Purdue and Nebby.
Yeah, I worry (uselessly) about Wisconsin. We control our own destiny right now, however, having beaten them in our single game together.

I see at least 2 losses there. If they are at the top, other stuff went really bad for a few others.

For those of you that struggled with “rooting” for Michigan tonight, I have your solution.

Do what I did and simply don’t watch the game. Then you don’t have to actively root for their players to make shots and their coach to call good plays…it’s so much easier.

You can simply look at the final score, laugh that Purdue lost, enjoy that they are no longer tied with us, and then say Muck Fichigan and carry on with your evening.

Note: This strategy may not work if you’re a basketball junkie with lots of time on your hands. I have 2 kids that occupy most of my time outside of work so Illini games are usually the only games I watch.

I don’t understand the concept of not rooting for what’s in the best interests of Illinois. Tonight, Illinois’ best interest was for Michigan to win. Saturday it will be the same thing. I have distaste for Indiana, but this weekend I’ll be hoping they win in East Lansing.

Seriously… I’m puzzled by illini fans who can’t see the big picture.

My wife's EXTREMELY obnoxious former boss was a SCUM Alum. He never failed to revel in any misfortune by the beloved Illini, and pronounce how wonderful the current assembly of paid for recruits were doing. This reached its zenith in 1989 and the four corners death in the Final Four, a night I broke my right hand and damaged a door frame. These long ago memories make ANY objective observance of a SCUM game difficult at best.

First of all, Redundant. Is there any other kind of scUM alum? Secondly, I didn’t break my hand, but I am right there with you about 1989. Finally, watching Juwan be relevant and beloved by their fan base just makes me want to barf…

When you type in Illinois Fighting Illini basketball in google it says that we are in 2nd place. Why is that? We beat Wisconsin and are currently the #1 seed in the BTT if the regular season ended today.

We have some good analysts here so can someone, with the added wisdom of a good night’s sleep, please explain how Purdue could thrash us and then get their butts kicked by Michigan. That is a huge swing in points.
Analysis, please

How did we lose to Cincy by 20 or the twerps by 16 or whatever the next mind blowing loss happens ...

it's college BB and I'm hooked on it , with the beloved my lifetime choice of giving aduration and praise from the bottom of my heart....

Let me try it this way

What did Michigan do that we didn’t or can’t do against Purdue. We both faced the same set of Purdue players.

Because teams are inconsistent from game to game. How did Michigan lose to mediocre teams, then solidly beat the #3 team? How did Baylor look unstoppable a few weeks ago, then all of sudden start losing to not-that-powerful teams? And on and on and on.

The transitive property (?) doesn't work from game to game.

I think this is overstated and overthought. Posters know the big picture. The "I have a hard time rooting for Michigan to beat Purdue" comments are for the most part tongue and cheek.

- On the road in the B1G. (Never easy)
- 3rd game in 5 nights. (although same for UM)

Dickinson being a legit threat from the arc (4-6) pulled their bigs from the lane, and Diabate went to work on smaller guys.
Dickinson/Brooks/Houstan a combined 12-16 from the arc.
Purdue 4-18 from the arc & 44% from the field.

Michigan played like a team that needed a signature win to stay on the right side of the bubble. (They did) Purdue played like a team that broke its arms patting itself on the back.

Mich controlled the temp, slowed things down to the half court. Making shots helped, but getting rebounds was very important. It felt like Purdue didn’t have the ball in their hands a lot. “Going down hill” always felt forced and almost desperate. Purdue kept looking for someone to break through and it didn’t happen. Edey had a few strong possessions but he couldn’t keep it up (got an offensive foul). Ivey score on a few drives but it felt isolated and wasn’t done consistently. Stivanovich missed open shots and looked tentative.

Mich isn’t as Big but have good wings and are pretty athletic. I think RJ is the key the next time we face them. I wish I could say Colman but I just don’t think he brings it consistently enough. Also, next time, let’s hit some shots.

The parity in college mens basketball is greater than at anytime that I can remember....there are a lot of good teams....but the inconsistency this year just amazes me.....wide swings in a teams level of play from one game to another....Purdue this week is a good example...there are other teams that have had up and down periods including our beloved (for various reasons)....just wondering if anyone has this stat....how many AP top 10 teams this year so far have lost to a team that's not in the top10...it use to be a big story if the 20th ranked team beat the #1-5 ranked team....now it happens quite often, sometimes multiple times a week and by teams that aren't even ranked....I made a comment in an earlier post that I thought that Illinois needed to be more consistent in several aspects to win the B10 and make a significant run in the tourney...Inconsistency has become consistent

I don't like Michigan but looking at the schedule it favors Purdue so it was a big win for Illinois. Purdue can now beat Wisconsin and help us out again. Looking at Michigan's schedule they have a tough road to hoe. I don't think they will make the tourney.

Michigan @ 13-9 and 7-5 in conference needs to stay hot to be considered in march madness consideration
vs Oh St
@ Iowa
@ Wisconsin
vs Rutgers

win, loss, loss, win, loss, win, win, loss

Don't think 4 - 4 gets them in. Illinois loss at home should keep them out of tourney with 17-13 and 11-9
