2015-16 Blackhawks

It will be tough, but I think it all comes down to the next game. If the Hawks can win in St. Louis then I bet they'll go on to take the series. Because there is no way they'll lose 3 games at home in one series, so they'll take game 6. And game 7 the pressure will be all on the Blues, having gone out in the first round the past 3 years that doubt will be in their heads.

Feel like Elliott is playing too well and the Hawks are playing too stupidly for this to go 7, although if Hawks win game 5, serial clenching will commence with our neighbors to the southwest.

Blues are just plain out playing the Hawks right now. Tarasenko and Elliott are playing out of their minds and the Hawks forwards seem hesitant to go after loose puck and the chip and chase because there are always three Blues on the other side of the blue line waiting to put a hit on them. A couple of years ago there was a special emphasis put on interference calls, specifically a dman holding up a forward going after a puck that had been dumped deep. That is obviously not an area of emphasis anymore and the Blues are taking full advantage.

The more I think about it I feel like this is more than just a hot goalie series...

The Hawks aren't getting any high quality chances nor are they getting bodies in front of Elliott for screens for their shots from the outside (which is probably a large portion of their attempts). Their stretch passes are also getting picked off or muddled up at what seems to be an alarming rate. It almost feels like they are stuck in the "pretty version" of the game that rarely works during the playoffs. This wouldn't be the first time that it's happened with this group, though in the past they usually acknowledge and correct it.

Regardless of how Tarasenko and Elliott play the Hawks are too much of a deeper team (forwards at least, defense is probably a push) to be down 3-1. I don't know if it's on the coaching or execution but I feel that there is a fundamental flaw in this series.

So - the NHL just decided to suspend Shaw for Game 5. No NHL player has ever been suspended for a racial or homophobic slur. How do they decide to set a brand new precedent in the middle of the playoffs?

I think Shaw got unlucky that the cameras happened to be on him and it was blatantly obvious what he said. And since millions of people saw the same thing, the NHL kind of had to do something about it. Definitely not the first time that has been said on the ice.

I'm glad they did. The NHL screws up a lot of things, but they've been leading the way among pro sports leagues when it comes to supporting You Can Play, and you either mean it or you don't.

I still have a feeling that the NHLPA will appeal this (it's kind of their job). It's not like this is the first time this word has been uttered during a game. Shaw is getting punished because the camera man caught him and America witnessed.

An openly gay writer for the Tribune was interviewed by ESPN yesterday and basically said that the NHL should not suspend Shaw, but make it known that this is the warning for all and the next violator will be suspended. That is what I was hoping would happen, rather than just making up the rules as you go (especially during the playoffs).

If they're going out, at least it's with a fight. This one is going back to St. Lou...I think.

Game 7! Never thought we would get here last week. Shame on me, I should really know better by now.
