Stoked for NHL hockey!

today's lines:
Panik-Toews-Hossa, Panarin-Anisimov-Kane, Motte-Kruger-Hartman, Hinostroza-Schmaltz-Tootoo

Tootoo's in because it's the Blues. Desi put on IR. He's out for 4-6 weeks. Hjammer is suspended for the Blues. Forsling made the team and will play tomorrow.

That is a ton of turnover on lines 3 and 4 compared to last year.

Yes, there is. But the time for experimentation is early. And with the Q blender, those lines won't last. The kids have to prove it, but I'm pretty confident they'll contribute. All 4 are good to excellent (Hino) skaters. And Q has to play them. So, there's that.

The D is stronger than it's been maybe forever. The keepers are excellent. Until proven otherwise, think they'll be a strong contender.

I miss the embarrassment of forward riches. Lousy salary cap :censored:

Bickell? lol

I hate that they had to dump TT to move Bickell. Sucks. But TT has a lot to prove.

Saad & Sharp: now, that sucked. But they had no choice. And what a recovery with Panarin!

The rookies are unproven, obviously. But Schmaltz and Motte, in particular, are going to be good. Hino and Hartman, we'll see. Am optimistic about them as a group.

Plus, Mashinter is gone. Woohoo!

Missed that transaction. Released or in Rockford?

Waived, cleared, assigned to Rockford. Thank God! Which isn't to say he's not a solid AHL guy, he is. NHL material, much less the Hawks? No bueno. Tootoo is a big upgrade.

PK: aspires to be a dumpster fire

Hopefully, they'll begin to right the ship, starting this evening.

Bryan Bickell diagnosed with MS. Explains his fall off in quality of play. Can be a brutal disease. Hope he gets the care he needs to manage it as best he can.

yea, it really helps you win hockey games when you have a winger who cando that. The Hawks will always be in contention as long as we have Toews and Kane

It's really impressive how the Hawks have started the season so well with so many new and young faces.

+1

The rookies, by and large, have been good. Kempny looks like a Top 4 Dman in the making. And Q has to play them.

Rasmussen is stepping up. Can see him filling the Kruger role next season.

Tootoo is a big upgrade over Mash.

Soupy signing was huge. Between him & Kempny, our D has seriously improved.

Crow: en fuego.

Team speed is improved. Much to be encouraged about, especially because the team hasn't hit on all cylinders yet. Way too early to make playoff predictions, but path to the Final looks considerably easier this season (not suggesting it will be a cakewalk).

Yes, in the early going the Western Conference appears to be way down from previous few years, more power going back to the East.

I know you jest, but seriously this first quarter of the season might be Q's best coaching job with the Hawks so far.

They still only have two scoring lines and reliable defensive pairings. They've been helped by some spectacular goaltending by Crow. Depth could be a real problem going forward, especially come playoff time.

That said, given their history we pretty much have to give them the benefit of the doubt.

I agree the job Q has done. We have been riding the hot scorer from Panik to Anisimov to Hossa. But the PK has got to improve. It seems we lack any aggression on the PK and do the rope a dope.

With the way the Hawks use the Kruger line, that will never be a scoring line. And that's a formula that worked very well.

Disagree w/your D assessment. We're deeper than maybe ever. Yes, Kempny and Forsling need seasoning, but we're loaded. Have there been lapses? Yes, of course. Hammer has been playing his off side. Seabrook has bounced back pretty strong from his poor last season.

The rookies are progressing nicely.

Do some things need to be tightened up? Sure. Can the Hawks get away with sleepwalking (e.g. Canucks)? Nope. Are there going to be more stinkers (e.g. Edmonton)? Absolutely. But taking the longer view, the Hawks are in pretty good shape, especially considering they're playing 6 rookies.

Good bounce back game. Last game of the circus trip tonight against the Kings. Hopefully, Q is done with Slowzival for a good bit.

I know he's no longer with the Hawks, but Shaw was one of my favorite players. ICYMI Here's Shaw being Shaw last night:
