He always brought the fire, but too many stupid penalties earned him the reputation to get calls like that.

Interesting, but don't mean squat.

As to Shaw, his rookie replacement (Hartman) shows pretty good promise. As do all the rookies. Some vets certainly need to pick it up though. Meanwhile, keep picking up points.

Fun game last night, as long as you did not watch the first period.
Hossa with yet another OTGWG. I really hope he is able to sustain his level of play, he is looking like the Hossa of old. His triple H line is fun to watch.

Enjoy Darling while you can. Really, really happy for the guy. Big sigh over his pending departure though. Awesome the way he's stepped up in Crow's absence.

2 great keeper battles between Darling and Raanta, huh?

The Blues tonight. Hopefully, we get the 2 points. Panarin is blazing. Kempny is in Q's doghouse. Hartman has been VG of late. Hartman's ability to stay out of the box has been outstanding. He's a VG agitator too.

Hawks very interested in bringing over Maxim Shalunov when his KHL season is over. This 24 yo is big, very skilled and is having a breakout season. Secret weapon? (in my best Boris from Bullwinkle voice).

Back to back regulation wins, one against the blue notes? I'll take it.
We are not going to be able to afford the new contract that the bread man will get are we?
:(

Panarin re-signs for 2 years, $6M. He's UFA after, so the Hawks will have to clear space to retain him. Think Kruger's gone this summer. That Seabrook contract: why, Stan, why?

Probably foolish to make a prediction at this point, but I just don't see the Hawks making much of a playoff run this year. They've managed to compile a good point total so far but whenever they play a decent team they appear outclassed (like this past weekend against the Caps and Wild). Have also beaten a lot of bad teams by one goal. There has been just too much turnover in the roster this year.

Did anyone catch NHL Network's ranking of the top 40 goalies of all-time? I thought it was kind of a weird list. It had Cory Crawford at #26, Tony O at #13, and Glen Hall at #8. The most painful part came with Eddie Belfour at #6 and Dominic Hasek at #2. The Hawks had both players on the roster in 1991-1992 and both played in the '92 Stanley Cup finals. They traded Hasek to the Sabres in '92 for Stephane Beauregard (who they then traded to the Jets for Christian Ruuttu) and a 4th round pick they used to pick Eric Daze, who did have a few decent years for the Hawks. Hasek went on to win six Vezinas. Thank you Mike Keenan. In '97 they traded Belfour to the Sharks for Ulf Dahlen, Michael Sykora, Chris Terreri, and a 2nd round pick. Thank you Bob Pulford. Most of all thank you Bill Wirtz.

Pulford was the WORST. He must have had some pictures of Dollar Bill doing some crazy things, cuz there is no other reason why they kept in in the
or-gan-I-za-tion so long

One thing Wirtz valued nearly as much as cash was loyalty and Pully was loyal to him for sure.

That's not really fair to the 'Hawks on the Hasek trade. Just like what's going to happen with Darling, there was an expansion draft coming up ('92, Senators and Lightning) and the 'Hawks could only protect one goalie. They had to trade one of the two or lose him for nothing. Everyone else in the league knew that and only offered pennies on the dollar in return. Getting a solid young top-6 forward in Daze out of the deal ended up being a pretty good return given the circumstances.

Belfour was the more established goalie and was actually four months younger than Hasek. He was the right choice to keep and was a Hall of Famer in his own right who eventually won a Cup (with a different team).

You want to blame anyone for Hasek leaving the 'Hawks, blame the NHL and it's ridiculously regressive anti-big market policies that continue to this day.

Now, the Belfour trade on the other hand... yeah, I'm not going to defend that.

Panik, waived and on the verge of being sent to the minors by the Maple Leafs before the Hawks swooped in, is yet another example of how the Hawks' talent evaluation and development is on a completely different level than the rest of the league.

The dude's now a legit top-6 forward and all the Hawks gave up to get him was Jeremy Morin, who has scored a grand total of 2 NHL goals since the trade.

As someone who has been dubious about the Hawk's playoff chances this season, I'm feeling different lately. The young players are really starting to come into their own, and Kane and Toews are back to top form. They have two goalies who can get it done and I like the trade deadline moves they made, especially getting Johnny O back. I know Pittsburg was in game two of a back to back last night but I was really impressed by the Hawks. The game had a real playoff feel to it. They seem to be peaking at the right time. If you look at the March schedule, it's a real bear. I hope they can keep winning and still find time to give the players enough rest.
