Georgia Tech and Memphis coach Josh Pastner are in discussions, a source told @CBSSports.

Gang, the AD that the search committee chose to replace Ron Guenther was Mike Bobinski, then of Xavier now of Georgia Tech.

It has not been a fun 5 years, but we might have dodged a bullet. Anyone who would hire the worst coach in America is....wow.

Definitely!

Interesting reading Jeff Goodman's twitter timeline. Wichita State fans thinking Marshall would never leave except for Duke and Goodman and Snow telling them Memphis is a much better job than anything he's been offered in the past.

Memphis isn't much of a step up if at all from Wichita State, just due to the conference situation. I would be flabbergasted if Marshall took that job.

Memphis is a step up from Wichita State. Hometown of Elvis, the legendary Sun Studios, some dang good BBQ and the Grizzlies. None of those which Wichita State has.

Marty Simmons

Is Wright st a step up from Evansville? Surprised to see Marty Simmons mentioned.

It is really neat to see his name mentioned. I played against him in high school. I knew he went to Evansville but lost track of him after that.:thumb:

Deadly. The AAC is a one-way ticket to nowhere.

I think Kevin Ollie might disagree with that. Cronin just turned down a gig to stay there.
I don't think it's a bad conference at all. As JM just said, it's a bit different now than it was a decade or so ago. Everybody was writing off the Big East a few years ago and they're doing pretty well too.

The money, the resources everything Memphis has makes that a spectacular job.

Memphis is a solid job. If I were ranking jobs it would go ahead of Wichita State, and would go ahead of a number of P5 jobs (the Big East is in the P5 and I will engage in fisticuffs with anyone who disagrees).

But it's not a giant leap. And it's not better than a plethora of jobs Gregg Marshall could easily get, not least of which is Georgia Tech.

Mick Cronin almost left his alma mater to go to a mid-major job. Kevin Ollie is among the point people in UConn's desperate campaign for one of the coming seats in the Big XII.

College sports is in the midst of seismic change. The AAC is a person standing with one foot on either side of the fault line. When the earthquake hits, they will be the first casualty.

I agree. The AAC probably will not last past the Big 12's expansion back to 12.

I'm still utterly amazed the Big 12 passed over Louisville the same time it took West Virginia. The Big 12 has got to be kicking themselves over that one. Add Louisville and Cincy and you have a nice, relatively geographically concise northern division. Now, they're eventually going to be shoe-horning a UConn or BYU or something into their mishmash of a conference.

WVU was a bit of an odd choice, but there were no home runs available. Louisville is a provincial school, and a basketball focused one at that. Tom Jurich and Papa John are both giant figures, but that underlying reality is unlikely to change too dramatically.

The Big XII doesn't have great expansion options at this point. The whole thing is starting to enter a weird entropy.
