Nike pulling out of golf equipment biz. Not surprising. Was gimmicky and didn't come close to Titleist, Taylormade, Ping, or Mizuno.

Their big dawg's (Woods) rapid demise has something to do with it too.

Rory isn't shining as bright either. Golfsmith bankruptcy and TaylorMade up for sale also big negatives. Phil Knight is no dummy.

Amazing day for Mr. 58, Jim Furyk, yesterday.
First PGA pro to shoot 58 in an event.
Looks like I'll have to revamp my swing even more than I thought . . .

Thomas Pieters finishes T-3 at -4 for first round in Rio. Keep it going TP! :shield:

John Deere Classic week, which means lots of Illini: Stricker, Points, Langley, Guthrie and Danielson all playing.

Stricker just finished at -1, which means he is good for a 60 tomorrow. Please see your bookies!
Hope to see a lot of Danielson over the weekend.

More on that rain delay
I saw tee times to START the 2nd round as late as 7:50 Friday night !
I've never seen them start a round so late. They must be pretty concerned about getting everything in by Sunday evening. I think the weather for them is pretty good for the weekend, but they have to play a lot of golf.

Charlie Danielson doing really well, btw. T4 after 8 holes of Friday's round, with obviously lots of golf for him and for others. Looks likely to make the cut. Hopefully that is a strong understatement.

That's a winner!!
OH
I was looking for when Pieters tees off tomorrow but couldn't find it. Does anyone know?

1? Stricker?

Yeah, that is what I counted.

Langley, Guthrie, and Points are all between 125-200 in the FedEx Rankings. Just didn't have enough high finishes to get the points this year.

Pieters is 54th in the World Golf Rankings, but since that is different than the whole FedEx thing, he doesn't qualify.

Yep, Stricker finished #98 so will play this weekend.

Langley, Points and Guthrie all finished in the 150-200 range so will need to play in the web.com finals to try and earn a card for next year. Being outside of 150 means they don't even have conditional status, so they have work to do.

Brian Campbell is assured of a card next year as he's going to finish in the top 25 of the web.com tour. He'll also be in the finals to try and improve his status. Charlie Danielson is playing in the web.com event this weekend, if he can pull off a top 3 finish he could earn enough to get into the finals as well. Otherwise he's probably off to Q school to try and get on web.com next year.

Thomas Pieters is assured of playing the European tour next year. He'll be in the Race to Dubai playoffs, too. Just outside the top 50 in OWGR, hopefully he'll move up there to get into more majors and WGC events.

Thomas Detry is #31 on the European Challenge tour, needs to get into the top 15 to get his card. Still a couple of events left for him, 1 big weekend could get it done.

Pieters is 54th in the World Golf Rankings, but since that is different than the whole FedEx thing, he doesn't qualify.

Thomas doesn't have a PGA tour card so is ineligible to earn FedEx Cup points.

Pieters opens with a course record 62 in Denmark. Playing alongside Ryder Cup captain Darren Clarke. Unlikely that Clarke picks him to the team, but Thomas is making him think about it.
