Does Trevor have any options left, or would he have to clear waivers to be sent down? Could be a reason he hasn't been sent down yet. Maybe they need to make up an injury to put him on the 15 day dl then send him to Memphis for "rehab"

Waino still's got it. Maybe a precursor to the second half?

I wasn't able to watch yesterday, but I think that was a statement game from Waino.

I know, I know I said I thought Waino was done, but what he's done recently is phenomenal. Him and Martinez are the aces (more so Martinez), but Martinez is learning a thing or two from Waino. Pitching staff is rounding into shape; just need the pen to step up

Agreed. And it wouldn't hurt for the defense and the base running to step up as well.

The gamble by Mike Matheny, taking out a cruising Mike Leake in the 6th inning for a pinch hitter with 2 on and 1 out, winning 2-1, paid off as the Cardinals got a few hits in a row to take the lead for good. Good outing by Mike Leake, who has pitched better as of late. We need to take care of business this week against the Padres as we have a tough stretch of the Dodgers, Mets, and Marlins to wrap up the month of July. Will be an interesting few weeks to see if the Cardinals are legitimate contenders or potentially sellers by the August 1st trade deadline.

Just letting you know that I had a good time at Champions club. Actually got to go there twice-Tuesday night and the makeup date on Wednesday afternoon.

3-1 in my trips to Busch this season, albeit the wins were against bad teams.

That nosebleed problem from C-Mart was strange to watch, but he sure recovered nicely and had a terrific outing.

Cardinals won 4-3 in 16 innings last night on a walk-of homer by Matt Adams in a game that ended at 12:25 AM CT.

And they weren't the only team in the franchise playing a long game last night. The Peoria Chiefs played a game tonight at West Michigan against the Whitecaps that went 15 innings. The only difference between the Cardinals game and this one is that the Chiefs game ended in a 9-9 tie due to the curfew rule. So that game lasted 6 hours with no winner and the Chiefs headed for a series starting in South Bend tonight.

Why is there a curfew rule? Are they in a residential neighborhood?

Bullpen looked good last night. Lyons was great, pitched 3 or 4 of the extra innings.

Lyons is great in the long relief spot. For some reason he struggles when he starts, but thrives when he comes out of the pen. I'm a big fan of him.

Well Said Farley. It was a great gutz team win. This is one of the few statement wins we've collected all season, against a good Wild Card contender no less.

I thought Waino was out there one batter too many. When it started getting rocky, at least walk the guy and switch pitchers. i told my girlfriend about a second before the HR, "Waino is going to give up a HR, just you watch". Anyway, the 9th inning was fantastic! Take it or leave it, Matheny is a players coach. He gives his guys freedom to play.

Guys love playing for him. He may not make the best decisions, but guys play hard every game. He gets them ready to play every night; sometimes it's too much, but they are ready. I think David Bell has a lot to do with that too. He's my pick from the current staff to get a manager job in the next 2-3 seasons

So in the last 3 games we have beat Syndegaard, beat Familia, and beat Fernandez even though he was 26-1 at home. Bullpen has been great too.

What are we going to do? I still have hope that Rosenthall can get right. Seigrist, Rosenthall, and Oh in the 7th, 8th, and 9th is one of the best bullpens in baseball. And if Rosenthall doesn't improve then bring up Reyes.

And Lynn is throwing bullpen sessions right now. I would trust a healthy Lynn out of the bullpen more than Broxton or Maness. But he won't be ready until late September or October.

Cards are starting to win the close ones now. They've won their last 6 one run games and are currently 13-16 for the year.
