Cards, 5-4!!! What an unbelievable win. Amazing!
my Jaw is still dropped. I cant believe it.
Man, I watched about 5 innings and needed a break. Im really happy they pulled it out. We've been in a real funk - needed a W in the worst way after last weekend.
Home plate umpire struggled all night with the strike zone. Last call was bad but we threw one earlier right down the middle that the dude must have blacked out on.
Gyro getting picked off at first was the game. Trying to score Carpenter was poor decision.

So did anyone read the VEB story about why Matheny needs to go? And if so and if it did happen, would you all like the secret weapon to take over? I think I would be all for it. But the first part needs to happen.
Talk about a lost season. It's not so much the record as it's the way this team has played. So unlike any Cardinal teams in recent memory. The Cards are in a very interesting/dangerous spot as the core of their team is old and deteriorating fast. They have some solid young guys, but no one that screams star. They're trying to walk this fine line right now of rebuilding, but still being competitive. That can be a dangerous place to be sometimes.
I agree except I think Piscotty, Diaz and Reyes promise some stars. Hope Luke Weaver and some others deliver. I was hoping to unload some guys like Adams at the deadline but we were still in it.
I look back at Mo's last 12-18 months and scratch my head. Giving Wong a long term deal. Extending Broxton and then giving him 2 years. Picking Heyward as the outfielder you'd throw money at. First giving up Kelly for a rental Heyward when at least one team gave up much more for him from Atlanta. Signing Leake even looks weak.
Keep in mind that our All Star Diaz was not suppose to make it out of the minors this year.

I think we are and will be fine. We are trotting some youth out there in a wild card chase. CMart and Reyes will be as good as a 1-2 as there is. Their stuff is electric. Weaver I think has great promise, add him and you have a nice young trio. Hopefully Wong can turn this thing around, Diaz and Piscotty should be the two we build around. I think Grichuk was figured out a bit this year, but he has so much raw talent for him to stay down. I can't remember the years Marp has left, but I absolutely love his leadership for the young positional core. I think we should have some more money to spend in the future and if we add free agents to our system, we will be fine.
I don't see what is wrong with most of those moves. Broxton maybe, but he really hasn't been the problem this year.
Heyward was good last year and is sorely missed. Grichuk just missed another ball in center today. And I think you mean Shelby Miller. He isn't looking so good either.
Mo went after David Price and offered plenty of money so he settled for Leake instead. And Leake has been a solid 5th starter this year.
Wong is young and still has a lot of potential. Signing him long term isn't restricting Mo from making any other big deals.
The challenges we are facing this year are not unique to other clubs. The Yankees are in the same boat and the sold everyone off. Mo trying to keep our guys intact as much as he can. The fans really dictate that as they love their cardinals. But he has to figure out how to shuffle the right combination of new blood, young blood and old guys to make the team competitive. It's a tough job. I dint look at this year as a lost one. It's a rebuilding year. I knew it when we lost both heyward and lackey to the cubs. We had to lean on our young guys and that will pay dividends in the next couple of seasons. Forcing Matheny to play his young guys was good for the team, imo. Otherwise he may have stuck with the old regulars. We do need to find a couple of new stars. I was hearing Gomez. Does that rumor actually have legs?

Gonna be fine long term, we have lots of young talent, and big money coming in soon. That being said, I can't remember a season being so frustrating. I'm really starting to get apathetic towards watching games. It has nothing to do with the losing, as I have watched and cheered during losing seasons in the past, and has everything to do with fundamentals. Terrible baserunning mistakes, poor defensive decisions, and the incredibly high rate of errors has just made this team unenjoyable to watch. I don't mind watching losing baseball (which we are not really experiencing yet) but I do hate watching bad baseball. These guys are making mistakes that they should have learned in t-ball. Even in yesterday's win I counted several. I can go 3-4 days without watching a game and not even realize it anymore because I've become apathetic. Hopefully getting oquendo healthy will alleviate some of that next season.
Edit: I guess I should add that even with all these issues we are still in a good spot to make the playoffs, so I don't want to sound super whiny or spoiled, because I do recognize that this is the lowest point in about 8 years, and here we are still in the WC race
